For when you get going - try to keep the bottom plate of the bucket parallel to the grade you want to dig. I.e. don't use the bucket tilt to dig - use the boom and adjust tilt to get the grade you want. Goes so much faster. Also dig down by slicing several times when trenching instead of going to full depth at once. And if the dirt is wet - never fill the bucket all the way. The dirt stays put due to suction and you will have a quite hard time. Please ask me how often I have done that before I learnt :-)

If you are lifting the rear wheels off the ground when trying to pull a tree root... back off because it CAN rip the bucket in half or cause other damage. It has the power... not the fluid flow rate for doing 2 things at once. Some people ugrade from the appx 1.6 cc pump to a 4.1 cc pump (fits with minor modification to the coupler and 2 pipe adapters) DO NOT increase the pressure setting of the relief valve as some videos tell people to do. It can already bend the cylinders at the factory setting. Increasing pressure will not speed it up.

Does anyone know if they make a thumb for this be it mechanical or hydraulic. The other question I have is how much will the boom lift when keeping it close in other words could you lift up 8 ft long logs to hold it up so you can cut them with a chainsaw off the ground. I'm guessing it would need to be hooked to a truck as a counterweight

Yes there are a bunch of other videos of people with a mechanical thumb that they bought new on ebay for $160. The 16 year review video of a guy said it lifts 400-450lbs.

You probably will want to run your furthest hydraulic lines through the boom so they aren't dangling around. Just musing that it would take a month of Sundays to dig out the stumps I do with something like that machine there. It's a maintenance nightmare but it's paid for itself.

I’m much faster with it now that I’ve got used to digging. I can dig a 6’x6’ that is 4’ deep In around 30 mins. By hand it takes me around 4 hours. So it’s definitely much faster 🤷🤦‍♂️ Also my back doesn’t hurt afterwards lol
