This will make my pump replacement easy this week. My pump was plumed with these exact hi temp connections and new my pump should slide in without any headaches. The pump is the same size and it seems like it will be a breeze swapping them out.

Is it acceptable to only use the female parts of the Union to connect to suction/discharge ports? Why/why not, please? Thanks!

Wouldn’t a Schedule 80 (Lasco) union be the best choice?

Zack, do you use teflon tape or plumbers putty on the Union male threads prior to screwing into the pump body?
@ThePoolBoysTX3 жыл бұрын
I personally use a little Teflon tape, some people don’t use anything

@@ThePoolBoysTX Thanks for the info and a quick follow up. I plan on gluing the Union coupling side to a section of 2" PVC that was the original male threaded pipe (screwed into the body of the pump) after I cut it to a clean square surface. This 2" PVC pipe is (LIGHT GRAY in color). Will this coupling be compatible with that type of PVC pipe?

@@networth8754 was it compatible?
@networth91519 ай бұрын
Yes. Installed the new pump with these unions two years ago using a little teflon tape and no leaks or problems.@@flakyballsax6282

For the Hayward unions that come with the Tristar pump, how tight? Just hand tight or hand tight plus ... Thanks!
@ThePoolBoysTX4 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve! Personally I do hand tight plus (barely plus).
@stevesobel96654 жыл бұрын
@@ThePoolBoysTX thanks - I made them as tight as I could by hand and no more. Works fine, no leaks! Thanks also for explaining in the video why the unions are CPVC.

Thanks for the update! Yes the less force we have to use the better, glad to hear hand tight did the trick!

Do you glue the pipe into the union?
@zacnicklas47692 жыл бұрын
Yes, one half of the union will be a female slip to where you would glue in the pipe. The other half will be the male threaded end.

Where can we get these local
@mannyamenta55665 жыл бұрын
What is recommended to use on the threads? Teflon tape, plasto joint stik or silicone
@ThePoolBoysTX5 жыл бұрын
Manny Amenta on the pumps with built in unions from the manufacturer there is no need to use anything on the threads. If you are adding a union, which would thread into the pump housing, you can use some Teflon and even a little silicone.
@pgnandt Жыл бұрын
Neither. Use pipe dope and bury the threads.

Would you use these on the sand filter as well?
@ThePoolBoysTX4 жыл бұрын
Adam Hamilton Sand Filters should have unions that are specific to the make and model of your sand filter. In most cases the universal high temp unions wouldn’t work.
