Hello, when you connect signal pin to 5V it means "turn ON the load" so yes it should start the motor rotating. Connect signal pin to Digital pin so you can turn ON ( or HIGH) and OFF (or LOW) to control motor.

Thanks for the test. Unfortunately the IRF520 is not the best choice for the job. To see this, you have to look in the data sheet, item "Drain-Source On-State Resistance". Here you find the on-resistance of 0.27Ohm -but @10V. For 5V or even 3.3V there is no R_DS_on specified at all. With 3.3V V_GS it could bei completely switched off and still in spec. Please compare it e.g. with IRF3708. There the datasheet guarantees 29mOhm @V_GS of 2.8V and I_D 7.5A So this will run even with 3.3V logic. With 4.5V V_GS you get 13.5mOhm @I_D of 12A. So if you redo your experiment with the IRF3709 you will get a voltage drop of about 0.12V an a power loss of about 1W @9A. Much better.

@@@robojax : Yes, I unfortunately bought this "MOSFET button" without reading the data sheet previously. They were advertised to be 3.3V logic compatible. But this is not true and did not work with an ESP8266 reliably in my application. So finally (too late) I read the data sheet and replaced The IRF520 by an IRF3708 which works a treat.

You are not driving the gate with 10 volts, so all those datasheet numbers you mentioned are irrelevant (and wrong by an order of magnitude) I think? The max you can get out of this when driven by 3.3v to 5v is 1 to 2 amps only - and probably making a lot of heat.
@robojax4 жыл бұрын
so you are saying we don't have enough voltage at the gate? if so then lower voltage at the gate means lower current and lower current means less heat. Am I missing something?
@chrisdrake46924 жыл бұрын
@@robojax "enough" depends on your application, but for an IRF520, TTL (5v or 3.3v) is not enough to turn it fully on. Heat comes from resistance, not current, as far as I know - I didn't see a datasheet that listed that, but you can infer (from the max current, because V=IR) that it's 5 to 10 times higher resistance at TTL levels than it is at 10 volts (the test value used on the datasheet). Some other guy mentioned that he had to swap the IRF520 for an irf3708 (which is designed for 5v signals) to get his project working. Do you have a test meter, and something that can use 6 amps? If yes, it would be a fun test. See how much current the 6amp thing draws when the arduino switches that on, then, disconnect the arduino and use the device source to turn the FET on and check again (and, I guess, see how hot it gets when you do that - my guess is it will be heaps hotter at 1 amp (semi on) than at 6 amps (fully on))
@robojax4 жыл бұрын
I have provided the link to the page here details and code it bit.ly/rjx-667 and ther I have the datasheet and schematic. at 4:08 I have mentioned resistance of DS (drain-source) and on datasheet page 3 fig.3 the DS current goes to 4A at 5V GS voltage. I might make another video on this module as I have now better equipment. to get 6A you will need 5.5V. On the same page it show that the DS resistance Fig. 4 depends on the junction temperature. So if you keep it cool it wastes very less from mΩ to Ω.

Robojax, Thank you for your video. I have a quick question for you. In your code / arduino, you connect to pin 8....and in turn, you send power from the power supply to the load if pin 8 is HIGH, and disconnect power if pin 8 is LOW. My question is...does this device allow for variable voltage across your load using PWM from arduino (say pin 3 instead)? Take the following example, if you provide 20V as your input power...and you PWM the MOSFET SIG, can you provide variable voltage to your load based off the PWM 256-count from arduino if connected to say, pin 3? Meaning, 20V/256-count = 0.078V resolution? If this is not possible to do with this device, do you have any component suggestions that would allow me to do just this? Thank you so much.
@robojax5 жыл бұрын
Hello, Arduino Uno only ouptputs HIGH=5V or LOW=0V. When you send PWM, it outputs 5V and 0V waveform what has only 5V for high and 0V for low. For that purpose you will need Digital to Analog Converter.
@GAment_115 жыл бұрын
@@robojax Robojax. Perhaps I didn't ask you properly. When speaking about the arduino's digital pins, I understand they can be set to LOW (0V) and HIGH (5V). But I also know that the digital pins 3,5,6,10, and 11 on arduino uno can be set to PWM, meaning you can pulse 5V on / off for different duration / duty cycles. My question is, do you have suggestions in how PWM can be used to vary the power from power supply to an attached motor using the MOSFET? I am not sure how a "Digital to Analog Converter" would fix this. Thanks for the help!

is that module can be used for PWM?
@robojax5 жыл бұрын
Yes it can. I will make video on that.

Thanks for this very useful demo. One question though. Am I to understand that the pin labeled as "Vcc" between the "SIGNAL" pin and "GND" pin (to be connected to Arduino) is not used at all? Is that pin connected to anything at all? If not, then why is it there? Thanks for the response... Please keep up the good work!

Yes. VCC is not connected. You can use it IF and ONLY IF your motor is very small and needs less than 200mA and voltage is of motor is 5V, then you can connect the VCC to supply voltage to the motor. The whole purpose of this module is to control a powerful motor with Arduino and Arduino does not have that kind of power.

Hi, I want to use the pin signal as input to the Arduino. How can I do that? Basically I want to input 24v to the mosfet and check with Arduino if it is getting the signal or no
@robojax6 жыл бұрын
the "S" or signal pin it INPUT and not output. If you want to check the "Signal" pin with arduino, then you need to know how to read voltage. I have another video that explains something else, but it has full details of voltage divider that you can use for this purpose. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJLSfK2fbNmag6c
