Using LEAVES to Build Soil in my Garden Beds

I have access to an almost unlimited supply of leaves. I plan on really incorporating them into my systems this year. In this video I filled my raised beds halfway with leaves. To cut down on the soil I would need to fill the beds and also to help building soil from the bottom.
In the upcoming months I plan on starting a leaf compost area and really using all the leaves I have to my advantage.

For raking leaves, rake them onto a tarp, I use a 4x8 size, then just drag to your location.

You've made some serious progress in a short amount of time! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the resulting harvests. I sure hope you guys have plenty of canning/storage items ready & enough space to stash it all. So happy that you are able to post so often! See ya in the next one.

I plan on canning. A little nervous because I have never waded those waters but I have to figure it out at some point with how short my growing seasons are.

Playing catch up on videos haha, but if you're still making raised beds, good tip place hardware cloth on bottom to prevent moles, etc, from underneath.

How has this method fared? Did it yield a good crop? Are you still doing it?

Another consideration is the Fiskar's pop up container. They are available with soft or hard bottoms and they collapse for storage. They are great to use during weeding and pruning also.

p.s. It's easy to straddle the pop-up container and rake into it.

Another option is to rake onto a tarpaulin; then tie the corners opposite each other together (not diagonally) and drag them.

That is a good idea. I think we have one laying around somewhere. I will keep my eyes open for it. I always appreciate suggestions since I am new to all of this.

I have thought about doing a tarp, but in this instance I wanted to be able to dump them right into the beds. When I start composting I may go that route since I will need a lot more leaves. :)

okay... you've never raked leaves as a kid. Get yourself some card board and some duct tape and make a shoot that fits into your leaf bags so they stand upright. Then rake a big ass pile of leaves. Put your stand up leaf bag next to the pile and use two rakes... yes two rakes... like giant claws... and pick up tons of leaves and drop them into the bags. Keep a piece of that card board handy cut to the size of the opening of the leaf bag and use it to compress those leaves. When its too full, pull out the shoot and start the next bag. You're welcome.

Bill, I could have used you when I was a kid haha would have saved me some back-aches. This time I was just trying to be fast because the leaves were close to the bed. But, when I start piling up leaves to compost I am going to use the cardboard idea since I will be back farther in our woods and need to get more into each bag.
