HEY RON... That metal dock right there in front of Oar House is loaded up with 2-3" pinfish. Perfect size to pitch at trout, reds, snappers. I suggest for bait.....day old french fries soaked lightly in ketchup. They tear it up! Better is to just sit in Oar House and have lunch while soaking a pinfish trap loaded up with fries and whatever else you got.

When live-baiting for Mangroves I like to use a mullet about 6-8 inches long with a 4/0-6/0 hook in its back. 40lb line straight through. If I use a sinker it will be appropriate to the current/depth and I'll have a 2 foot leader cut from the main line. The end result is usually a fish in the 20-25 inch range. We used to chase bigger ones with handlines and use 8-12 inch mullet. Too many sharks for that now. Back in the 80s/90s we used to be able to find sabiki jigs up to 4/0, but there'd only be 3 hooks at that size. Haven't seen them around for a while. Now they all seem to be the smaller sizes.
@CameramanRon Жыл бұрын
I could def do that offshore but inshore a 14 - 16 inch mangrove is. Good sized one
@TheCaptainbeefylog Жыл бұрын
@@CameramanRon here it's one of those situations where you find they're bigger but there are fewer of them. As you head north there are more but inshore they tend to be smaller and head offshore once they're about 18 inches long. Once you get that far north though there are a lot more competitor species such as fingermark, grunter, cod and barramundi that get as big and bigger..
@chrisfrizzell9467 Жыл бұрын
When the bait fish come around the Pier I think a 1 hour boat vs pier sabiki rig challenge would be awesome to see. I tip my sabiki with a small piece of shrimp and after I get the first fish hook I let it run around a few seconds and get several fish hooked up

You had said something about that red snapper biting you here in NC we get some bigger toadfish (I’m sure y’all do to) and I had a big one clamp down on my thumb!!! Omg they got crushers for a mouth!! When he let me got it had cracked my thumb nail right up the middle, it hurt sooooo bad lol!!!!! I wish I could put a picture on here!! Someone told me they were good, the only reason I took him home is because I was mad lol!! They do have white meat on them but it’s gotta be a big one because they are all head. It’s just 2 little strips down the sides but actually good!!
