I've been composing in musescore for a while now. 4.0 feels great to use, and the course feature is exceptionally helpful. The fact you made this in 30 minutes with more ideas on how you could improve it blows my mind. Great video!

Hey, amazing video, i have a question - how did you learn, like, all of this? Im trying to learn how to compose and create music myself, can do pretty okay songs, but the more advanced stuff associated with music theory,not just the basiscs seems like a vomplete abstraction to me. Were you recreating songs? Analyzing them? What was your learning curve? Would really appreciate a response Thanks in advance and have an awesome day

Hey thanks for leaving a comment. When I was starting out, I was already fascinated by music, especially classical and wanted to learn how to write. I started by learning to use a multitude of software to see what sticks and watching a couple KZbin videos. I can recommend @OrchestrationOnline and @8bitMusicTheory for writing conventions and technique and @Richard.Atkinson for great analysis. My person tip is to write something regularly like a small piece every day or week.

Hello, KZbinr, can you share the configuration of your computer? My computer has never been as smooth to use.
@lynnlo6 ай бұрын
Yep, play around with the buffer rate and the music library. I use 2048 for the buffer and the MuseSounds, but if you use regular sound fonts, it might be faster.

Hey man just started my composition classes in college the choice is between muse, sebelius, Doric and finale I really like MuseScore I was wonder if I could pay you for mentorship, tutoring lessons ?
@lynnlo Жыл бұрын
I'd be happy to help! Just tell me what topics you're interested in, and I'll be happy to make videos on them. And don't worry about payment, I enjoy sharing my knowledge.

Is there a quick way to edit chords instead of erasing them and completely rewriting them in? Like edit notes within the score one by one? I don’t know all the quick keys yet… but I did pretty ok on my first score. I played the piano and exploded the scores into my string quartet. Oh and string glissandos but portamento style not like falling style
@lynnlo Жыл бұрын
I gotcha! These two I can answer directly but this gives me a good idea for a video. You can select and drag notes in a chord with the mouse. But I find it easier to select a note in a chord and use up and down arrow keys to move it. To put in a portamento, you should use the proper glissando line for notation purposes (though functionally it doesn't matter). In the inspector, select playback and set it to portamento instead of chromatic. Hope this helps!

@@lynnlocan you make a video on all the keyboard shortcuts you use for like tuplets and other markings? Do you use defaults or have a custom setup?
@lynnlo Жыл бұрын
I have a custom setup that I've grown used to. I'm planning on making it soon!

It could use some timpani and cymbals, they add so much depth But it's overall pretty cool

Very cool! Sounded great for being done so quickly. My only complaint is that your mouse and keyboard clicks are really loud and distracting. Not sure if there's a different mic position you can try, but I want to hear the music and your commentary rather than any mouse/keyboard noises.
@lynnlo Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, I'll play around with the mouse position to account for it in the future.

The mouse sounds are actually based, it gives a sweaty programmer vibe, but it’s composing instead 😂

What hotkeys do you use? anything custom? what do you recommend
@lynnlo Жыл бұрын
I use "E" instead of "N" for new notes. "T" for ties, "G" to make anything dotted, and "S" for slurs. I would recommend taking a look at the shortcuts to memorize accents as well. Another thing I started doing was creating a custom pallette. It only takes a couple of minutes but has saved me hours of searching.
