One thing I have learned: Put bags of scraps together by company. More often than not, a company's collections will have coordinating colours (SU, Recollections, and CTMH are all ones I have found that work). Yes, I know that there are tons of other companies out there, but I am in rural Canada, so I don't get the same selection that the big cities/USA does. By putting multiple collections scraps into the same bag, you can find coordinating colours for a project, without having to cut into some cardstock or a fresh sheet of patterned paper. It takes a bit of discipline, but this method has really helped me out.

I end up with strips from making envelopes. I take a thinner 12x12 and glue the strips diagonally on it. This makes a new 12x12 designer sheet of paper. I stagger the strips and use coordinating colors usually from the same paper pad. I like your idea too.

I love it when the colors in the scraps, stickers, and photos all pull together, like it was planned all along! I have found that Carta Bella ephemera packs go well with some Hobby Lobby Paper Studio pads. Also, Simple Stories, Echo Park and a couple other lines seem to work well together. If I see the same or similar colors, and feel to the patterns, I have no problem with mixing paper lines for cards. I had 2 different vintage pads (1950s style) from Michael's, I think, but the colors worked well together. Some of my dies and stamps also work with the scraps I'm trying to use up. Look at those, too, and see what papers can be pulled together that you might not have thought of. Sometimes, too, making die cuts out of prints, along with strips, squares or circles, etc might bring them a new life. Or stamping on them.💁‍♀️

Love it! I have found that placing a strip over the seams helps hide them not completely matching up a bit better too. 😊

WOW! This is a great video for how to use scraps. Most of my scraps are cardstock from cutting mats. Since I organized mine by color and put them next to me I am using them. I now always go to the scraps first. Thanks!

I appreciate all the thought behind this video. Sometimes when confronted with a mountain of scraps, we’re tempted to just get rid of it because it seems like too much work to do something useful with it, but you broke it down nicely. I do try to use up my scraps as I go along but I do get cardstock scraps in particular,so for me sometimes that just means let’s make mat layers that I wasn’t necessarily planning to make to help use up those scraps. If I’m doing sheetloads of cards, I always try to use cardstock scraps first. Or in addition. That sort of thing. With my pattern paper scraps, which tend to be few, I’ll make scrap cards usually using crazy quilt kind of piecing or strip piecing. I like the look of both.

@@BourbonCreekCrafts oh, I do have scraps, just not the pretty one that you have and not nearly so many. Mostly just cardstock. I think the reason I don’t have as many scraps as other people is that I’m just not as prolific at making projects as most of you, lol! But I do manage to use up most of my patterned paper when I’m doing a project so that there are few or no scraps.

@@BourbonCreekCrafts oh, I meant to say, that I always decorate the inside of my cards, as well, so that I’m sure helps with using up patterned paper scraps at the end of a project.
