Hey Dave, I normally fish southern end of Lake Mac out of a boat. So next time its too windy for that, Im going to have a crack down at the beach after watching this very informative video on beach jewfish techniques. Hats off to you for releasing all that info thats taken you so much time to learn.

Maybe consider a Shimano Baitrunner or Thunnus so the fish can run without the fighting drag.
@aussfish9995 Жыл бұрын
I like to hit them in strike out of the rod holder or hold the rod and strike them highly effective though I use less drag them when I first started on the Beach. I hit them in strike with circle hooks when live baiting in the boat. You’ll get them both ways but I think you miss less fish when they hook themselves Do you let them run? How’s your hook up rate ?
@redtobertshateshandles3 ай бұрын
@@aussfish9995yep. I use one 7/0 circle and hold the rod. I feed a foot or two of line, for the fish to get the hook in it's mouth, then let it come tight naturally. I can catch quite small fish.

Your using the wrong pipe is the problem. Use the pressure rated stuff that costs twice much it's more than good enough. It's got twice the wall thickness and no recycled core. I use 1.5m lengths with about half hammered into the sand and it holds up to 80lb gear with 12kg of drag and 10 foot sharks
@aussfish99953 ай бұрын
Yeah thanks Shane I use 2 meters of pipe now and belt it in deep with a rubber mallet and less drag on the strike I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed had to learn the hard way 😂😂

Cheers for the vid. Tons of helpful advice. Do you reckon the PVC tube would have held if your drag was set a bit lighter? (but still enough to set the hooks). I have been fishing Newcastle beaches hard for the last 8 months and not landed a jew in all that time. Been frustrating as I know what I am doing. Porbably guilty of fishing quiet gutters and holes for too long though. Also using a paternoster rig (off a running swivel) but will try making the dropper longer. I also use up to 3 rods, depending on my bait supply (prefer fresh tailor) but might scale that back. Thanks
@aussfish99952 жыл бұрын
Yeah it may have held with a lighter drag that was definitely a flaw in my system. If you are fishing on your own two rods is probably enough. Don’t fish into deep holes if there are gutters in the Beach. To much water and the fish can miss your baits. Fish the narrowest gutters you can find on a rising tide they will fill up nice and they concentrate the fish. I don’t know I think a lot of fishing is a confidence thing we go expecting to catch Jewfish and we rarely miss. Though we catch a lot of under size fish between the 50 to 65cm range. They come through in Schools but there will be big fish mixed in with them. Keep going keep experimenting tight lines Dave

Great recount, with some interesting spins on tactics that work for you in your area and there is the key - 'what works for you'. Good fishermen use what works for them and rarely go home fishless.

Great video Dave can relate in a way. Was fishing stocko the other night on a full moon had a full arrow squid on my 12 foot jew set up and I got slammed and had to chase my jew setup down the sand into the water. Same situation as yours. Sand in the drag. Couldn’t fight the fish to adjust my drag to let it run and it snapped me off I was so Devo!! Definitely will be back out there soon with a bigger ambition to slam a 20 kg jew!
@aussfish99952 жыл бұрын
I learnt that the hard way, the only thing you could do it’s click the bail arm over and try to hand line it while your mate cleans the drag from under the drag knob. Sketchy as fuck though 😂😂😂

It took me a few times chasing my rods down into the surf before I realized what you were saying there about the leverage the height of the rod gives to the drag, it's not intuitive at all. You've seen those smaller pipes I've been using - I'll often actually grab my line and give it a solid pull to make sure that when it gets slammed, it's not gonna go for a swim.

Mate, really informative video. Love the stories you told. Darno sounds like a top shelf jewie fisho 👍 With the paternoster single mono branch off to the hooks, you thought of using the Crane 3 way T 2/0 - 3/0 swivels ? It would negate the plastic tube as the 2/0 T bit spins around. This size is 100kgs and on eBay for pack of 30, $14. Think Shogun make them. Also Yo-Zuri HYBRID is a fluorocarbon and mono mix. Has fluoro strength and mono give. Maybe options for those Godzilla jewies on the beach digger. Your videos are a great format and fun to watch. Cheers😀
@aussfish9995 Жыл бұрын
The second rig I show in the video has the shogun 3 way swivel. That is what I use all the time now. I use 80 pound fluorocarbon now between the top of the 3 way and swivel above it 😂😂 So I don’t get cut off. And my branch leader I gave extended to 45cm seems to attract more bites. I always fish with the plastic tube it just seems to stop the branch line getting tangled. My mate fished the same as me with 3 way shoguns with no tube and he has a bit more trouble than me with the branch line getting tangled. Tight lines Dave

Great informative Jew video Dave Appreciate the help you give Just talking about the gutter you like to fish you said you like a narrow gutter. Are you putting the baits in the gutter or up on the back bank or both ?? And do you still use heavy patenoasta rig with heavy snapper sinkers when you are using the beach worms ?? Or using a lighter setup With all the jewys of late do you think the tides have had any influence or is it just low light evening conditions or the combination of both low light and slack tides ?? Cheers bruz
@aussfish99952 жыл бұрын
We explore around the gutter a bit we try at the back of the gutter near the bank then the centre. We don’t cast very far all if there is a bit of sweep. We use a lighter double dropper rig with the worms. The seem to like the new moon when it’s dark and the week leading into the full moon. We always like to have some swell when Jewfishing. I don’t know why exactly some times the big dogs just move in and they will be for maybe a week. Don’t know exactly we’re they come from or we’re they go but if your there when it happens it’s epic 😂😂😂

Funny you say about the bloke sitting down . . . I turned up at the beach to find my mate fight a stonking big jew. He was sitting down because he was exhausted, and tried to get me to finish the fight for him. NO WAY ! Its the fish of a lifetime - you have to see this through! He did, but the 25 kg jew could have just about gaffed my mate when it was over. I like to have big fish come through the shore break off to one side - rather than straight in towards me. Obviously depends on the beach, but I seem to have less trouble with them rolling end-over-end in the shore dump & snapping my leader. Its a trick I read in one of my Grandad's fishing books on saltwater fishing nearly 40 years ago. Works for me.

Great tip mate, the only time I have ever sat down to fight a fish is in a game chair on Marlin 😂😂😂
@wizardnebula8572 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the informative video, out of curiosity, do you think it really matters whether you use the first rig you showed as oppose to a three way swivel. Also, how long do you generally make that line from your swivel down to the sinker? And when fishing stockton, do you generally drive onto the beach, or does it not matter too much as long as theres a good gutter?
@aussfish9995 Жыл бұрын
A 3 way swivel seems to work the best. I like at least a 1 1/2 meter drop from the swivel to the sinker sometimes I walk sometimes I’m in a car with my mate. Just depends on finding a good formation no matter what part of the Beach your on.
@wizardnebula8572 Жыл бұрын
@@aussfish9995 Thanks for the info, some good fish seem to have been getting around recently which is a good sign, keen to try your paternoster rig, like your thought process with getting the bait off the bottom and making it as obvious as possible.
