Electronic conspicuity for small general aviation airoplanes recently became much easier.
This short video shows how I managed to achieve this using PilotAware Rosetta.

your point about seeing other aircraft with mk1 eyeball is absolutely true. other GA aircraft are v hard to see particularly

The DR400 being of wooden construction is the most Ideal aircraft for this sort of device with the semi-permanent installation as the airframe does not shield the radio signals. Don’t expect such performance from a metal or carbon aircraft unless you fit the antennas on the outside of the aircraft.

Hi David, An interesting video. I have a Rosetta unit which has not been fired up for over 12 months for obvious reasons. I didn't realise you could get METARS. This might be due to an upgrade? Can you get Metars whilst airbourne? Before the lockdown, I probably only used the Rosetta 3 times in anger, and I noticed the red circles a few times but couldn't see the threat. The paperwork I got with my unit didn't really explain what this mean't, but as you say it's better than nothing. I stick my Rosetta up in the RH corner of the w/screen.

I believe the METARs are a recent software upgrade - you do get them in flight.

Hi David, Thanksfor the video. I use a similar setup. May I ask what settings you use in Sky Demon for the Pilot Aware?

David, a really helpful video. Two questions. Have you found a way to suppress Skydemon traffic alerts as you come into land say below 500ft. It can be quite a distraction on approach. Secondly, you zoomed into the instruments from your camera in the roof, what resolution do you use to be able to still read the gauges in the footage?

Q1 - no I haven’t - good point Q2 - 4K GoPro - which allows considerable zooming in.

Which buttons do you have active on your yoke stick? PTT, trim,...?

PTT, Autopilot Disconnect, CWS (Control wheel steering) and trim (pitch and rudder)

That’s good, but I don’t think it’s quite as capable as PilotAware - not so many features.

hello david have just come across your videos after searching info on a dr500/robin aircraft as i might be in the market for one would love to have a chat with you about running cost maintenance and reliability and back up spares etc i have been out of flying for a while but am keen to possibly take the plunge owned a pa28 turbo arrow and flew many twins thanks again

Hi Ian Robins are a good choice - good lifters, short strip capable but will also do IFR if suitably equipped. Sure, they're a bit slower than some but 125kts gets you most places. Costs are average. Any engineer can maintain them. Overall, a good compromise.

@@davidhorobin1060 thanks for the quick reply so i assume it must be kept in a hanger due to it being fabric any sb/ad s i should be wary off and can from your experience what do you budget for fuel consumption /hr on average can you go lean of peak with that engine i am just trying to do my due diligence one other question your ifr charts on your gtn 750 do you download then from your iPad or vice /versa i assume you don't pay twice for the same charts ie foreflight oct

@@n6315x Always hangared, 45L per hour, Garmin charge £895 a year for the GTN updates. Expensive hobby.
