My favorite subject!!! 🎉 Dutch Hookbill ducks are incredibile at the job!!!!! They worck well with Indian runers as they search on the grass and indians up on the plants. As for chickens bantham breeds are more mild in the garden as far asa damage goes. It is good to know that Hookbills can fly well and this is recomended if the birds free-range! Nice series, thank you!!!😊

Loved this one. I had my suspicions about just letting your birds free range the garden as some channels are apt to promote. You guys are a gem amongst the cacophony of content out there! Glad to see the channel growing!!

The bug population in my vegetable garden this year was much much less than in previous years. The reason? My 10 ISA Brown had free ranch from October to May. I'd never had layers before. Before the freeze up and snow, they devoured everything. They were even helpful when I dug up my carrots 😂. When the garlic and asparagus started coming up in the spring, we put chicken wire around them. When I started planting out, I had to confine to their run 😢. I did make their run bigger with temporary fencing though so they had green grass. When I had meat birds many years ago, I did let them out a couple of hours before sunset. Other than eating my rhurbarb to the ground, they didn't cause much damage to the gardens. I agree, chickens are good for the gardens in many ways. I might just try some tunnels between my rows next year. Thanks guys. Great as usual.

Australian Spotted, East Indies and Call ducks are small enough to not harm most plants and many drakes are for sale in autumn so maybe a bachelor band of mini ducks for bug control and you might not even see them at work!🦆🦆🦆🦆

Hey Brian! Can you elaborate on your Buckeye flock? I saw your previous video on Buckeyes and enjoyed it. I’m in NE Ohio and can’t seem to find a local breeder anywhere. Separately, I have a Speckled Sussex that killed and ate a vole this week. Great videos guys. Keep ‘em coming!

The Buckeye flock is 1 rooster & 5 hens ordered from an online hatchery (can’t remember which one). The plan is to hatch eggs in the spring to expand the flock. So far they are beautiful birds that seem to be thriving. The only issue is that they like to poop on the front steps & the wife is not happy with that! They started laying about 1 week ago (at 5.5 months), and I get about 3-4 eggs a day from the 5 hens so far.

I needed Guineas this summer. I had 3 yellow jacket nests, 2 hornet nests,9 bald faced hornet nest, and a birch tree full of European hornets, all within 150 feet of my house! One of my roosters grabbed one of the European hornets. That was a bad idea! He got stung several times inside his beak, but he got it ate! 3 hens and another roo saw it and wanted nothing to do with it. I like to run my birds befoe and after tilling and the end of season. Occasionally, I'll put my hoop coop in and let them fertilize and scratch a new area for awhile before putting a garden in.

Great subject! What do you recommend for chiggers? Do they infest chickens?

Not sure. None of us have lived in an area where they are an issue for a very long time. Anyone have experience?
