This is really helpful. You know, your comments about the importance of drills and warming up make me think - I’d love to see a video or two on your favourite drills. I never do them, and I tend to just go straight into lessons without any prep. You make me think that maybe I could be getting a lot more out of my lessons, if I just did a little work beforehand to get ready.

Thanks Stephen- I know I’ve gone to lots of classes/privates and it’s gone in one ear and out the other! The little things before and after are what made more stick for me :)

Another key, key topic, Katie. Passively taking private lessons can help, but using and approaching them wisely and judiciously seriously increases the chance of getting the best bang for one's buck. Tango is quite the investment, so trying to maximize one's gains from every endeavor can make a significant difference. Esa!

Great video Katie. From a teachers perspective, talk to your teacher about your learning style and a good teacher will adjust the way they teach to help you get the most out of your lesson. If that’s something you know about yourself it saves the teacher the time it takes to figure out your learning style and gives them more time to teach you how you prefer to be taught. Also, don’t tell them after the lesson as if to say “I’m more of a visual learner so...this wasn’t helpful.”

Private lessons can be essential to figuring out elements of your dance -but integrating all the information you receive can be tricky…is there anything you do before or after the lesson to make sure it sinks in?
