I like that you leave thinking/response time 😊 It’s very helpful in allowing us to process and try to figure it out. And that you teach so visually- very, very helpful!

Thank you for noticing, Amy. 😀 Both are so important to building long-term memory and Gaelic instincts. I'm looking forward to testing some new visuals in videos this year - I hope they'll be helpful too!

I love your lessons, Jason. You are a wonderful teacher. I've looked for your lessons in a step-by-step order but can't always find them that way and find myself in an advanced lesson I don't always have the background for. Is there a way to see your lessons in order?Thanks in advance.

Hi Jason, I love your videos. I was wondering why ``thu`` became ``tu`` and when it is used. Also, why do we pronounce ``tha`` as ``ha`` but pronounce ``thu`` as ``u`` ? Also many words have a hiden ``h`` sound, is there a pattern or is it just the way it is with these words ? Thank you.
@mikenewton4549
@mikenewton4549 6 ай бұрын
Ian, the question of the "hidden h" has to do with lenition. You'll want to check out another video on that topic, but I think the short answer would be that it helps with the flow between words. You just need to know when and how to use it. It can be a stumbling block to us new learners and is one of those things that just requires experience and practice.

Tapadh leibh! I've seen many of these before, but it's helpful to see them all together. It helps the Gaelic stick more! 😄 Question, I've seen 3 different forms now of asking where something is. "Càite a bheil," "Càit a bheil" and now for the first time "Càite bheil." Are all 3 acceptable to use? The first form was the first I learned (3 years ago), but I commonly see the second form in Scottish literature/articles. It makes sense to drop the "e" to make the sentence flow easier and that's also happening with the 3 form. Does anyone actually use "càite a bheil" anymore or is that outdated? Mòran taing!

'S e do bheatha! Anything that makes the Gaelic stick is good. 🙂 I believe all 3 are fine to use, although the first (and full form) may be considered a bit old school at this point. When speaking, we'd blend the vowel sound at the end of Càite and the "a" in "a bheil" anyway, which is where we get these alternative spellings. Like you pointed out, they flow better. :) Personally, I go with "Càite bheil" or "Càit' a bheil," which reflect the way we'd say them.🙂

I always remember Caite an robh thu!!!! from the Speaking our Language drama. Once I know it is an robh, I know it is a bheil and am bi (theoretically, I did not know am bi until today, I am knew to the future tense.)

For a sentence like “Dè tha a-muigh” would it also be appropriate to spell it like “dè th’ a-muigh”? How does one know when it is appropriate to shorten the Tha to th’?

I've seen "Cuin a bha e?" and "Càit a bheil e?" forms before. Are those correct/proper, or more dialect/slang-y, or just plain inaccurate?
@GaelicwithJason
@GaelicwithJason 6 ай бұрын
Those are fine to use as far as I know. 🙂 The full phrases are "Cuine a bha e?" and "Càite a bheil e?" In spoken Gaelic, the vowel sounds at the end of Cuine/Càite merge with the "a" in "a bha", making the whole phrase flow more nicely and giving us the spelling you shared above. There are also "Cuine bha e?" and "Càite bheil e?" for the same reason.🙂
