It's impressing how much there is under the skin of this synth. Probably one of the best ever creative tool by long time. Kudos to Steve.

Maybe using the noise osc only works on earlier versions of Serum ? I have ver 1.309 and it does not seem to work. Yes the noise osc is on and yes the files are .wav .... Maybe it is something to do with the Daw? which is Cakewalk by Bandlab ?

Liked and subbed. Thanks a lot for a great into to sampling in Serum. If you are still responding to comments, please let us know how you would get rid of that click or last frequency hold you get when you reach the end of the wavetable. I suspect it's an easy thing but being a Serum newbie, I just don't know if you handle that through the envelope or if you can do both the FFT and a zero-crossing (which I suspect would get rid of the artifact). Thank you.

As a latecomer to the world of VST's. I have to say I find Serum to be kind of a one trick pony. I imagine that it's the perfect synth for anyone interested in deep sound design, but it's hard to plug this synth into anything other than the EDM/TRAP/DUBSTEP genres. The filters are unabashedly harsh (which I can imagine is a good thing for some artists) and it really takes some work if you want anything out of this thing other than "shrillex" If I had to choose between some of the heavey hitters...Massive, Sylenth, Dune 2, Nexus, Omnisphere...etc this would be last on the list. I put this synth in the same category as the Absynth series...amazing if it fits your focus...not very flexible if it does not.
@marktilly76516 жыл бұрын
I agree. Im not a huge fan of the sound of serum. Its sounds a bit rough for me.. its good for some things tho. Its a shame cause i love the interface.
@Unconsciouzone6 жыл бұрын
@tom Waterson creativity and sonic preference are two entirely different things. Some people create amazing art with acrylics, others are ace with pastels. I just find this program a bit too 'digital" for my liking. (If that's OK with you)
@theboofin6 жыл бұрын
You can make it sound like a regular analogue synth if you want.
@Unconsciouzone6 жыл бұрын
@PushServer I'm certain that you could, but not without a bit of effort, and at that....only one patch at a time. There's really no need to defend this synth. I fully recognize that it's ace at what it does best....and to my ears what it does best, is harsh digital and pointed directly at the electronic dance crowd. (again nothing wrong with that...just not my thing.) Dune2, Massive, Nexus, Omnisphere...all of these are much more versatile (IMHO)
@theboofin6 жыл бұрын
Unconsciouzone You just need to use analog waveforms. The waveforms that Serum comes with seem to be computed. I put Moog waveforms in and it sounds warm.

If you can't do it that way just try to find the Xfer folder in your Library on your PC. Inside you should find a Serum Presets folder which contains another folder called Noises. If you put in sound files there you can later just load them up inside Serum with the Menu option. Hope I explained this well.
