In this video we'll be going over the reflexives that deal with the routine again. We'll focus on the stem-changers. This lesson is for my Spanish II students and might be a little too advanced for some.

I have a student who just transfered from a 4x4 schedule into my class. She missed the 1st semester of 2nd year Spanish, and I didn't realize her situation until the 3rd 9 weeks was over. Your lessons are a God-send to her. She is going to take the entire year of level 2 in one 9 week session. !Muchisimas gracias, Tontitofrito!

The ustedes means "you all" in all countries. In Spain, it happens to be the formal way to say "you all" while "vosotros" would be for friends and younger people. But everywhere else, "ustedes" is used for you (plural).

I love the way you explain things! I don't remember ever hearing about the shoe verbs but it will help a lot. Noticed one small thing at 5:15 when you used duermes instead of duerme which made me question my small knowledge 😁 but after all these years you probably already noticed.

This makes sense! So the reason, why there is a "se" in "como *se* llama" is because it is literally translated to" What do you call yourself

Nosotros dormimos = Dormimos. They both mean 'we sleep' Nosotros nos dormimos = Nos dormimos. Both mean 'We fall asleep.' Nosotros is optional but 'nos' does not take the place of it. Our verb in the nosotros form is what means we don't have to use nosotros. That is, 'dormimos' is the nosotros form, so we know that means 'we sleep', thus we don't need the 'nosotros' in it

How do you know when to use acostarse and when to use dormirse? I thought acostarse was the act of going to bed, but dormirse was actually falling asleep. The answer @ 6:36 in your video shows me that I'm wrong. I would love to understand the difference. Thanks for these videos & your help!

It's not wrong to say "va a la cama,", you're just using a different verb (ir). The verb acostarse really means to lay down. Pablo se acuesta. (Pablo lays himself down/ lies down). You may hear both from Spanish-speakers, from my perspective I've mostly heard and used acostarse.

Oh, that's good to know! So I am 90% bedbound, and I always wonder how to say "I'm going to bed" in Spanish without implying that I'm going to SLEEP. So you're saying I would use acostarse for that, right?

HI jordan, I like your explanation, and it really helped me. But for dormirse, the 3rd person singular, shoulnt it be "duerme" instead of "duermes"? Because I have noticed it when I was practising the reflective verbs with your video. :)

If I want to try and find some children's books to read to begin as part of taking what I've learned from Rosetta Stone and put it into action. Which would you recommend? Also, maybe some children's CD's that make learning easy for kids (for me, a new Spanish child) Thanks Bo
@SeñorJordan
@SeñorJordan 9 жыл бұрын
Bo Sebastian If you have a book store near where you are, at least in the US a lot of the big ones have parts of the children's section with books in Spanish. You might ask at your local store... or maybe at a local library depending on where you live they might have some children's books in Spanish.

¡Hola! Every person is different so it’s hard to say. You could try and see how it goes. You might also consider: 1. Getting a private tutor to work on your conversational skills in Spanish 2. Listening to music in Spanish
 3. Watching television shows or movies that you like in English with Spanish subtitles turned on A varied approach with different techniques and sources of the language would be ideal to see what fits best with you. Hope that helps!

I dress myself -- Me visto; I also dress my children. So to say that in Spanish is what? I dress them -- se visto?
@SeñorJordan
@SeñorJordan 9 жыл бұрын
Steno Reporter Actually it's only reflexive in this case if you're doing the action to yourself. Otherwise, no reflexive pronouns (me, te, se, nos, *os, se). So: (yo) Me visto = (I) myself I dress. To say I dress someone else (like my kids), (Yo) Visto a mis hijos. If I want to say "I dress them", then "them" is a direct object, which would be: los (Yo) Los visto. Hope that helps!
