About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

OH MY GOSH!! I have had this plant I have kept alive for over 14 years. I had no idea what it was and it has increased in size each year. Sometimes I forget to water it and it looks bad but it comes back each and every year. I was told to pull it and get rid of it but I never listened. I was going to look it up two nights ago to see what it was, but forgot. This plant looks just like your comfrey. I am so excited to know I do not have to go out and search for this plant now. I was wanting to plant this for a very long time, only to have it growing right under my nose all these years. :) I am so excited!!

I subscribe several weeks ago and have really enjoyed your videos. We’re in Southwest Missouri. Our grass is crunchy and we could really use a good soaking rain. I am watering the garden daily. We have harvested 10 or so banana peppers and 2 zucchini squash so far. Our tomatoes look good. Our daughter has a small back to eden garden in its second year. 3 tomato plants, marigolds, a few strawberry plants, and just put in a fe cantaloupe plants that we didn’t want to go to waste. They all seem to be thriving, except the strawberries, which something ate the leaves off, but new ones are coming on and the shoots look good. Our traditional garden has tomatoes, squash, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers and Brussel sprouts. First time trying those, and so far, so good. I have had to put some DE on them for cabbage worms or some sort of little bitty green caterpillar anyway. First time trying that as well, thanks to your video! I have to say, I am more excited this year than ever about growing our garden to share. I even purchased a small greenhouse and hope to get that up, along with several raised beds all fenced in pretty by fall. My husband and I went to Baker’s Creek for the first time this year too! I am learning so much from you all and Living Traditions. Love it! Looking forward to watching you all in the learning center and whatever great adventures you all have in the future! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!!

Same here in western austria. Warm since april, no frost nights (normally we can get some until 20th of may), the garden is exploding. Sun Flowers are already blooming, first potatos harvested, garlic chives harvested, turnip cabbage, salad, first cucumbers (greenhouse) and green beans also. Tomatos, Chilis, white greek beans growing like crazy, giant onions are close to harvest, grapes are doing like crazy, every day harvesting strawberries, raspberry bushes are growing like crazy (autumn harvest sort). I don´t remember such a great growing year, and I do gardening since 30 years. Veeery strange, but enjoyable! - Greetings from western austria on 700m above sea level - with day temps around 78F, nights with 50-60F.

Awesome garden! Kudos to you for keeping it up in the scorching heat. It has been bad here in SC with very high humidity, but we haven't hit the 100's at this point. Bugs are bad here too. My garden is tiny as I'm just getting one started in my backyard and digging up lawn to put it in. Can only manage preparing a little bit each year since it is just me. Enjoy the fresh bounty though! Another plant that likes heat is Okra. I like it coated in corn meal and lightly fried. I'm not southern, but my parents were so, I grew up eating it and love it! It's a great soup thickener too so I always freeze some for that. Pickled okra is popular and I bet it would be good fermented. I'm going to try that this year! Flowering stops production but at the end of the season I always let it go to flower because they are very pretty - looks like a hibiscus.

wow - love your garden - i have an alpine vege garden and cant grow onions here they stay smaller than a spring onion tried and left them in for 2 years but had to pull them in the end - my carrots only grow as big as my little finger but am going to try them again the taste is amazing - i can grow huge beetroots so they are a winner - silverbeet argentata is a good one as well in my garden it has the scrummy wide wide white centre rib - so succulent - love iceberg lettuce but they rot in the heat in the height of summer so grow that lettuce mixture that you scatter and snip so much easier to grow - will be working out next springs lot very soon - once the snow is laying and i cant go anywhere - my garden wish would be an extra month of summer to grow more veges

I am also about to place shade cloth over my tomato garden because we get a few triple digit days in the summer here in Alabama. Oh! and my green beans are doing great but funny thing - I purchased bush beans but ended up with a combination of bush and pole beans.
