A trick to getting the ground rod driven easier into the soil is use some water. Fill a jug or container with water. Then start driving the ground rod into the soil. Stop and pull it out of the hole. Then fill the hole with water and let it soak into the ground. Then put the rod back into the hole and drive it down some more. Pull it back out and pour more water into the hole and repeat.

As a former rural mail carrier, if you are a half mile or less from the road, mail carriers are SUPPOSED to come to the house and deliver your package. Whether they will or not, hard to say. A big box placed near the mailbox (if possible), can also do the trick - one of my mail customers did that for USPSl, UPS and FedEx package deliveries

In Australia in the country or in many rural areas they use old milk urns mounted sideways for mail, or old refrigerators etc, something you can chain up to prevent theft of your mail..eg leave it open when empty and get the postie to lock it if he leaves something...just an idea🤗

If you pour water in the hole for your ground rod all you have to do is work it up and down and it will go down in the ground without wearing your forearms out. Make sure you use plenty of water.

Just a thought. I've heard that if you have a hot fire it will sterilize the ground underneath it. So if you're going to have a fire do it where you plan on driving, parking cars or don't care if anything grows.

Someone in Idaho left a weighted trash can by the end of their road. Think I would build a 2 sided wall to hide it a bit from the road, then have your mail carrier leve it in the can any time you have a package. I have the same problem here ...over 73 miles RT. You may also call the P.O. and ask for redelivery and meet him at the end of the road. Have him call when he is close to your place

yup! you can lock it too if you give a copy to the post master at your post office, local fedex/ups distribution center, etc. living in a rural area, this isn't an unusual thing to do at all. where I used to live, the post master had a lock box full of package drop keys. 😺

like watching your videos but noticed you "beat" the ground rod into the ground. Learned long ago to form a small pond and pour water into it then you can just manually move the rod up and down and it will push its way down easily without hitting it with anything--except near the end--but with the water it will go in easily!

Me and the wife have been watching you folks but missed these early videos. I was wondering why you didn't get a older RV trailer to live in while you were building your dream? Also wonder on your solar panels you didn't mount them so they would track the sun. What part of Texas are you building in? I've noticed you seem to get a lot of rain which is great for a rain catchment system. We live Close to Casa Grande, Arizona and rain catchment won't work for us. Not a lot of rain and hotter than heck. I also noticed a electric pole with a transformer on it by your shop. Does that mean you could have had electric service? Being rural like you are I would guess you would have a lot of outages like we did 20 years ago.

Great videos. Just started watching from the beginning after stumbling on to you channel. One comment about where you have the batteries mounted. Being the ply is mounted just in front of the metal sheathing I would have considered putting insulation behind it. The sun will heat that metal and your batteries reducing their life. Better would have been to mount them on the internal wall of the barn. Just a thought. Cool bit at the end with the coyotes.

Hi guys. I was born and raised in a big city and never had to deal with flies/bugs, I kinda know what you are going through right now. Sunrise and sunset are the worst right? While it's not repellent, I use alcohol in a tiny spray bottle to stop the itching. It also heals the bites faster. There are some plants that you can add to your garden that might help with that in the future. Check on Pinterest, there's good info there. Meanwhile, if TX is anything like Southern Italy, enjoy your next 6 months of bug bites :-D

You need to get out there and worm your donkeys and shave any white specks off the legs of the donkeys with a disposable razor even on the cattle. Well, actually I learned about this when I was a kid in a 4-H horse club. If you talk to the feed store they will tell you if the "horseflies" are not flies which is the treatments I just described. You will have to get a "bolling" gun and force the animals to take the medicine down their throats, please check àt the feed store for the medicine and it's pretty easy to do, you can do it! Love your channel!
