@johnnorris12274 ай бұрын
The older Dewalt radial arm saws from the 40's, 50's, and even into the 60's are really good and pop up on the used market all the time for very little money. I have 2, a 14 inch and a 12 inch and they are both built like tanks. I paid $150 for the 12" and $250 for the 14" and I'd take either one of mine over that King RAS Dusty has in his shop. The old dewalts are just bigger, better built, more rigid machines with more power and they will last forever if you take care of them. So be on the lookout. Shoot even the smaller 9 and 10 inch homeowner version dewalts from the same time periods are great machines if you don't need the extra capacity.

tools for everything yes. Does it take a "craftsman" to push the wood through the machine? No. but it does take carpentry knowledge. My compliments on the work. The end results show craftmanship.
@Jaydayallday4 ай бұрын
@@ben68442 what is your point Ben? Is his end results not show craftsmanship? And yes anyone can push wood through a machine but this guy precision is dead on with all his different clips he shows which is craftsmanship that not anyone can do. Just cause you got the machine doesn’t mean you know how to use it.
@ivanboesky15203 ай бұрын
This isn’t craftsmanship. This is a fancy table and cutter blade literally doing all the work so one can fab a joint ultra quickly and then present it as “hand made” when it isn’t. You could literally show a novice vocational HS level student how to install the cutter, how to set the guides and how to safely push a piece of wood through it in under 15 minutes. That is not “craftsmanship”! 😀

Watching these modern wood workers with all their fancy gadgets really makes me appreciate old buildings actually made by hand. That tool is the craftsman.....
@foxykins3 ай бұрын
I really hate this argument. At some point a hand saw was new technology. Do you think the hand saw became the craftsman when people stopped using obsidian axes?
@mattkelly15873 ай бұрын
@foxykins to say that a tool like the saw, which has been around for thousands of years, could be compared to that table saw is what is really ridiculous. How can you say something so ridiculous. It's a simple argument, and if you just take a second, it would hopefully make sense. This guy can do a lot with power tools, and that's great, but what constitutes a craftsman these days? It's a valid question. Is the craftsman mostly the tool or the person? The best buildings in history were made with hand tools. His equipment is amazing, but nobody can build a decent house anymore. So are we shooting ourselves in the foot by not using hand powered tools? %99 of homes built are absolute trash compared to homes built 500 years ago - with hand drills, pulleys, and hand saws. It is as if the more tools we acquire, the more we distance ourselves from the work piece itself. It's a good question about humanity and how when we do not use our senses fully to create, it produces lesser quality outcomes.
@ivanboesky15203 ай бұрын
Agreed, probably sold as “hand crafted”, but it is all the tool and the joint is definitely not hand crafted. A novice HS vocational student could learn how to install the cutter, set the guides and safely push the wood through in 15-20 minutes tops. This might as well have come off a mass assembly line. No great skill in it, and it most certainly is not high craftsmanship. Nice tool for sure, but definitely not high level craftsmanship. 😀

reality: I built furniture for 20 yrs. My brother is an auctioneer. Even with online bidding today quality furniture brings NOTHING. Grandfather clocks for under $200. Cherry drop leaf tables under $100. I shut my shop down. These are NOT a here and there event. I can furnish an entire house with GOOD furniture for under $1000...including knick nacks
@mattkelly15873 ай бұрын
@redhed9776 we are talking about the quality of the build, not the resale value.... I am sorry your business had to shut down. That's a tragedy. Why people are so brainwashed to think "new is better" is beyond me. I have held onto every piece of furniture that has been passed down to me (I am 33) and I plan to keep them until I die. @jeffploetner3 ай бұрын
How do you secure it after? Glue?
@timpoll70943 ай бұрын
@@jeffploetner glue and clamps. It only needs to be clamped in one direction. As long as your material is flat and was properly cut on the shaper the corner will be perfect. It takes a little practice and patience on the shaper. Make sure to lubricate your table and fence with a sliding compound.
@1992tkl5 күн бұрын
I recently finished working with 1x8x12 material with similar joints and had trouble making the corners come together near the ends of the boards. It looked like slight variances from the mill and the shaper had misaligned the inside joint from the outside exposed corner, especially near the ends of the boards. I took 18 inches off each end and still had this problem. I'm just whining. It can be difficult to get a good cut in curvy material.
@timpoll70945 күн бұрын
@@1992tkl this is why milling your own lumber works best. For this joint to work everything has to be set up perfectly on the shaper/router table and the lumber must be flat with a straight edge.
