We don't use the word 'fall' in British English much anymore, but we used to in the 1800s, apparently. I love the subtle differences between different regional versions of English. It makes it fun!

Very nice, Omar! I'm so jealous because I am now living in Florida and Autumn here last for about 6 hours in early January. Nothing changes colors, it's just 7 degrees cooler. Having been using the 27mm (new version) since March, I'm thinking that it might just be the best Goldilocks focal length for general photography. Sure you might miss some shots, but the hundreds of appropriate subjects can make up for its limitations... all in a tiny package. As always, really enjoyed this presentation.

Two suggestions: 1.) Shades of Death Road, Allamuchy. I used to bicycle there. 2.) The Worthington State Forest area north of Tocks Island. Back in the sixties/seventies the state bought (eminent domained) all the land along the river to build a dam at Tocks Island. We defeated the stupid dam idea, but all the old houses and land remained abandoned. I haven't been through there since the nineties, but I'm sure it's still an interesting look at the past -- and what might have ended up underwater!

Nice idea and some lovely shots. But...... i got the feeling that the first few shots were probably better described as nature portraits rather than landscape. Just cos they were generally close range with a "subject" and some blur which is pretty much how you do portraits. Nature portraits - have we totally made something up? The barcode shot however was landscape and really nice!

They'll take my British passport for this, but I'm an English teacher so it has to be done. Part of American English is original English. We changed to certain French words after you guys left us. Autumn is is one of them. Fall, faucet, pants all those were once our words and then we moved to Autmn, tap, and trousers afterwards.
@Teeum53 жыл бұрын
Hello, this is very interesting but I don't quite understand as a non native speaker... would you like to explain? Whom do you mean by "We changed..."?
@simondavis7413 жыл бұрын
I think you have it the wrong way round. Trousers comes from Gaelic and pants is an abbreviated version of the French ‘pantaloon’. Faucet comes from the French Fausett. So it was the Americans who borrowed the French words not the English. Autumn comes from Latin.. 😉

I had this lens for a couple of months recently, and just sold it. I honestly tried to fall in love with it, but sadly, I didn't even get to liking it! (I also had a pancake lens on an old Olympus mirrorless, which was equally non-inspiring.) To me, this is just such a boring lens, and it made me realize that (1) I'm not a fan of the 27mm (40mm equivalent) focal length and (2) f2.8 is just not sufficient for my low-light and bokeh needs. I was using it with an X-E2, which is a small camera, but even with this tiny lens it was too big to be truly "pocketable." For my money, the 35mm f2 is the perfect walkaround lens, plus it's weather-sealed...and it's got an aperture dial! From now on, I'll stick to pancakes for breakfast, and keep them away from my cameras ;)

Could you do a 1.4 16 23 35 bokeh test comparison? Say subject at minumum distance, 10 feet and 20feet with aperture optimized for max buttery bokeh?

I looked it up, FALL has been used since the 1600's and is in 2 of the 3 most used English dictionaries. I like your your bike, but I might get an enduro type, incase I get another 9.2 earthquake and have to get around. Your riding motion on the video makes me miss the long ago days when my friend and I went on 14,ooo mile camping bike trip around the western states and Canada in the lake 70's (Honda 500 SS), my friend dumped his Kawasaki 300 when he saw the bike I bought and he took it back his brand new bike in trade for a Kawasaki 1000 because his ego was assaulted, Good Times. Always Manipulate your scene. You get good Autumn color on the east end, in Alaska I usually get a dull yellow. Nice spot for shots.
