What a strange Logic. Thanks for making it clear.

Another thing that adds to the confusion of this is that the layer order for Arnold's Layer Shader is the opposite of the Layer RGBA node, so that Layer 2 outputs over Layer 1.

Thanks Arvid! You have helped me out on many occasions. Thank you!

Thank you. That was the best explanation yet. Didn't know about the Normal map setting either.

Hey Arvid, How do I apply a mask for the displacement with the AirgbLayer node? I'm trying all sorts of things but it's not working :(

Thanks for the video! I'm not a huge fan of Maya's own layer node, but the operations are much more intuitive and you can reorder the layers just by dragging them around. Is there a reason why you would choose to work with this one instead? any advantage?

It’s just part of Arnold and using native nodes is always recommended. But I agree it seems way too complicated

Ok. Question. What if I want the multiply to affect only the layer above it but not the layer above that? It seems multiply effects all layers above a layer, not just the layer above it.

How come when blending the Normal maps, you added the blending operation on the Layer1, instead of Layer2? (Since Layer2 is supposed to drive the belnding mode).

Hey Arvid, great vid! What app did you use to draw annotations on videos which looks like shotgun review? Is it free?

Am sorry I might be totally off topic because am new to the 3D world but can I do everything in maya and do all the simulation in Houdini then import them back to maya please. I will be glad if I get a reply with all respect please 🙏🙏🙏
@arvidurs3 жыл бұрын
Sure, Maya is quite capable of simulations as well. Especially now with Bifrost. So there's no need to move to Houdini for simulation tasks.

@@arvidurs I really appreciate your advise, if you do have a learning kind of platform please give it to me so that I can learn from you because I really do understand everything you post.

OMG, this is cursed! Who on earth decided that this was a good idea?! At this point I don't even understand if numbers are reversed or not %) Like you need a freakin video tutorial to understand a layer node. Ridiculous. But thank you for the video! Otherwise I would've just gave up =)

At first i thought: now i got it thx Arvid.....then i opened Cinema 4d and you know what????.... the stack of the layer node is upside down. Layer 8 is the one at top. Now i just dont know nothing haha

Another great video. Great explanation. Proof yet again why Arnold sucks. Only through fighting with this node did I discover that it works the way you've explained. Evidence that the programmers of Arnold need to be collected in an air-tight room and have the oxygen removed. Everyone builds their layering set up the same as Photoshop. Why these morons felt the need to be different just boggles the mind.

This is one of the badly designed layered texture node out of all renderers. I wonder what was the reason for this choice from Solid Angle side. layer 8 is the bottom layer? really? crazy
@arvidurs3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, completely agree with you. It's very complicated and unintuitive
