Although a lot of people dislike the RW I actually really like it. It does actually say in the Akai guide that it can be used as a standalone sequencer. It not only has MIDI but gate control too for the purpose. I like the fact you can have 4 patterns of 16 notes that you can switch between if you can get the knack of pressing and holding the 'fill' button at exactly the right time.

Yeah the only reason I don't still have it is I needed the money more than I needed another drum machine

The Wolf is my go to machine. The midi out triggers a 360 midi bass unit. That goes into ehx bass mono synth pedal. That gets controlled by the behringer fcv 100. So I have really nice bass sounds that I can do sweeps of filters with my foot. Super fun for live. I route the other synth out of the Wolf into all kinds of effects. The crazy thing is the 360 midi bass also has a real time pitch knob. The options are kinda limitless

Its a brilliant machine to have in your arsenal of drum machines. Im was amazed by the hate they got. For the price they were a no brainer. The funny thing is they are now actually dearer to buy. You wont find one selling under the rec retail any more.

@@anthonybrett I was using it earlier and had the bass running a Crave along with the drums and I thought it sounded great. I like analogue equipment and it fits in with a lot of what I do. I like to think I can dial in some good drum sounds. They are really sought after in Japan in particular as they weren't sold there originally.

@@rexterrocks Ive gotta get a Crave, they sound super nice creamy! I'll never let my RW go, one mod I can highly recommend is adding a pot for the open high hat decay. To save money, Akai used a dual pot for the high hat decay, so when you turn it, it adjusts both the open and closed together. But its really easy to buy another pot, and add it below in the spare space, the you can adjust the open and closed high hats separate. Really useful but easy mod. carillonaudio.wordpress.com/2017/01/14/akai-rhythm-wolf-mods-hacks-circuit-bending/ Cheers

Thank you for this. I'm getting my second hand Wolf in the mail tomorrow:) Want to experiment setting up with my Korg monologue!

I connected the R.Wolf with a Voca beat via midi. But the steps on the volca are not the same like on the Wolf. The kick of the wolf os basic 1,5,9,13 but to have the volca run in sync I have to programm the kick steps on the volca on 4,8,12,16. I tried varios settings amd dived into the manuels. Nothing seems to help, so what is wrong?

Since I got my Erebus I am happy to use it along with the RW bass sequencer. Thank God you can switch octaves on the Erebus to compensate for the narrow note range of the sequencer. The Timbre Wolf is also a great candidate for this approach! Have fun!
@CKT11387 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's definitely not the most dynamic sequencer, and it's a pig to program in step mode (which you really have to because for some reason mine screws up on quantisation) but it gets it done haha
@ludwigkopp81307 жыл бұрын
CKT1138 it totally does. For real time noodling you got to be a 32nd late on purpose and it falls right into its grid. Not comfy, but doable.
@CKT11387 жыл бұрын
Ludwig Kopp it's a shame that Akai clearly did a rush job with it, there's some potential under the hood but it's got all of these bizarre idiosyncrasies
@ludwigkopp81307 жыл бұрын
CKT1138 totally agreed they pushed out a half-baked product on the market which had a huge potential of becoming a legendary piece.
@CKT11387 жыл бұрын
Ludwig Kopp i guess technically even if it was half baked it could have become legendary, like the 303. Of course these days it's unlikely to happen because we have the luxury of computer created music, so people don't need to "make do" like they did in the 80s and early 90s

This is cool. This mean one could use the Rhythm Wolf drums and sequence a Volca Bass directly in the Rhythm Wolf synth's sequencer.

I do the same with my microkorg and another akai product and No one is doing videos on it. I have over 17 tracks made using midi...improvise.

I KNOW! It's crazy, nobody had really documented this at all before I felt like making a video about it.

Great video!Don't wanna ask something stupid, but do you actually have the swing option even if you just use the RW as a sequencer?

dept of major whoops you can do a simple modification to the voice board that allows the addition of another potentiometer for more hi hat control
