Using The Rode NT1 WITHOUT A Boom Arm/Mic Stand

I struggled to find any KZbin videos at all which enabled me to use my mic without a boom arm and I was getting frustrated when it was this simple to fix! However, you don't get anywhere near as much shock resistance with this setup so I would definitely recommend getting a boom arm.

Thank you!! If I'm only recording my voice (no musical instrument), would you still recommend a boom arm? What's the purpose of it apart from "holding it"?
