Good job with your video and explanation. I recently purchased a Twistech and a Hagen's wire bender, both of which are much more expensive tools that perform the same function, but with larger wire up to .051 wire. I had forgotten about this very cool low-cost tool. It is a very good deal and and excellent starter tool for those wishing to make spinners without spending much money. (most fisherman) I also bought the booklet, which I agree is invaluable for beginners. My Twistech tackle maker (Magnum version) cost about $150. My Hagen's wire bender cost about $200. At about $30, Jan's Tack-l-tool is a no-brainer. I wish I had one about 60 years ago when I was a youngster. :-)

the first fish i ever caught was a 3 pound large mouth when i was 4 years old and caught it on a yellow with black spots rooster tail with yellow and black feather type hook back in 1975, and now after all these years i haven`t touched one of these spinner baits since then, i tried to find some like the one i had back then and i cant find one, i still have the original one from when i was 4 yrs old and i take it with me to bass pro or other stores, , maybe it`s time i start making my own, also it seems to me i caught more fish with these lures than anything else (other than minnows when i was lazy), thanks for the video sir

It is now 2021; Do you know if they have made a new tool that will handle .051 or 062 wire for making Bucktails ?
@timgrant69393 жыл бұрын
Not yet. they sell the Hagens Professional Heavy Duty Wire Former but it's $170. and will only go up to .041. You have to buy the Heavy Wire Adapter Adapter Kit for $40.75 to go to .051.

What wire diameter do you recommend for that type of lure?
@timgrant6939 Жыл бұрын
The tool will only go up to .031" Depending on the size of fish your going after, I use a .029 to .031 most of the time. I wouldn't go any smaller unless you are making ultra light tackle.
@ronuhlenhopp93683 жыл бұрын
Perhaps this tool could be more useful if the diameter of the hooked rod was a lesser diameter. Then on could make smaller loops for smaller inline spinners. I like smaller loops for all of my inline spinners...also shorter inline spinners in general so long as the blades spin completely freely.
@timgrant69393 жыл бұрын
I agree. I would love to see them make a smaller diameter tool.

Is this unit good for making Alabama rig / Umbrella Rigs?
@timgrant69392 жыл бұрын
I guess it would help make the loops on the ends. I'm not really sure. I've never made an Alabama rig. Where I live you can only have one hook on the rig, so I don't bother.
@davepierpont32523 жыл бұрын
What size wire did you use in the video
@timgrant69393 жыл бұрын
Probably .024" in the video. I use .024 to .031 depending on the size fish I will be going after. The tool will only handle up to .031". I do go higher for large fish and use pliers.
@spanishteacherbayarea45183 жыл бұрын
a wire diameter of .031 is enough for Tuna?
@timgrant69393 жыл бұрын
No. I only fish fresh water fish so I don't know what you would need. But .031 is definitely not large enough for tuna.

Shouldn't the hook end be barrel wrapped too. I know it might take a big fish, but a straight wire can be pulled in a straight line. I envision fish pulling that end out while swimming away with hook in mouth and beads floating to bottom.
@timgrant69395 жыл бұрын
I put a dab of super glue on the front of the body. that's enough to keep a fish from pulling it out.
@dwightstewart71815 жыл бұрын
Never seen one yet that has been pulled loose by a fish. Remember the hook is supported by the wire going to the loop at the other end, and held by the wire fed through the lure body. I seriously doubt two strong adults (you & a friend), several hundred pounds, could pull that hook loose. Hell, the hook would probably break first.

@dwightstewart71815 жыл бұрын
I use the Worth Tackle Wire Forming Tool to make smaller lures. It's capable of making even very small (Panther-Martin size) in-line spinners for trout and similar. By the way, I also use the Jann's Netcraft (jannsnetcraft.com) book "Tackle Tricks with Wire," which works with this Worth tool as well.
