In this video, I discuss the VB-MAPP assessment with Liz Maher, a fellow autism parent and passionate advocate of the VB-MAPP. We emphasize the importance of building strong foundational skills in children with autism and avoiding errors in assessment, such as over-counting skills and prompting. We also discuss the use of probes in VB-MAPP assessment and the need to avoid going in the same order every time to prevent children from memorizing the order of tasks.
This snippet highlights the social responsiveness of children with autism and the importance of showing what children can do rather than guessing their abilities. We will also share insights into learning how to program using the VB-MAPP and other assessments, which can help teachers, clinicians, and parents support children with autism and toddlers showing signs of autism.
