Great video. What camera are you using for the Super 35 sensor?
@Walaby504 жыл бұрын
Hello Zeiss, why is there version for EF with an aputure ring? There are way mor people shooting video with cameras, that have a EF Mount than with a F Mount. Also the reversed focus oriantation of the ZF is really annoying.

Have you compared the 35 f2 against the 1.4? I have the f2 and there is a significant amount of focus breathing compared to the 1.4 you are showing. Wish I would have seen this sooner. Now I know why I should have paid more.

I know that the point was to look at field of view differences but these were not great comparisons when you did the FOV comparisons. One is on a FHD sensor while the other is on a UHD sensor. The difference in image clarity is actually somewhat distracting when today’s full-frame hybrid cameras are often shooting in 6K or higher resolution and super 35 sensors are shooting 4K to 6K. This makes the S35 sensor look a lot better simply because of the better resolution resulting in better image clarity. I don’t know… maybe I’m just nit picking but it would have been nice to see both on 4K (UHD) sensors.

I have to say that even if I love milvus for video shooting, the focus breathing is definitely noticeable, such things doesn't effect that much if you pull focus while camera is moving, however in a fix shot, you will see breathing very easily. For those who want to buy milvus for video shooting, it's one thing to keep in mind.

I disagree ..... there is breathing but it's very minor. I was about to pick up a pair of sigma cine zooms but the breathing on those are ridiculous. I much prefer these as an affordable set.

@@blackicestudios agreed, focus breathing is very minor. I picked up the Milvus 50mm f2 M zf.2 mount with Duclos mods and I'm very happy, so building out the rest of the set for use with Canon and Blackmagic cinema cameras. Love these lenses !!!

thanks. but i didn't see much breathing in this video. did they zoom in the post? How does the breathing compare with different primes like CP2 or Sigma FF?
@JonasStuart2 жыл бұрын
I have the 50mm f1.4 and focus breathing isn't an issue at all...

These Milvus “stills” lenses have perhaps the least amount of breathing I’ve seen maybe ever in a “stills” lens. If you’re so concerned with breathing, go look at the original Arri-Zeus Ultra Primes. Some of the best films of all time were shot on those, with noticeable breathing, but who cares? Color rendition and contrast are top notch. Same can be said for Milvus to a certain degree re: breathing. You’re not gonna find better rendition and contrast in this budget range. Same optical structure at the CP.3s and they are a full stop(?) faster, however you sacrifice the 15 blade diaphragm down to the 9 blade diaphragm on the Milvus. That’s literally the only difference, optically, between these two lens series.

It barely breathes .... only the 85 had foreground distortion .... wow ok
@americanicecream87965 жыл бұрын
why the fuck would show breathing while sliding the camera

Milvus superspeed f1.4 or Xeen CF?
@jessecook35932 жыл бұрын
To me, it’s the Zeiss Milvus and it isn’t even close. But if you ended up going with the Xeen CFs, those are great too and are in true cine format. Optically, though, Milvus is superior to my eye and the only sacrifice is the constant cine-build (same diameter, length, focus ring, etc.)
@JonasStuart2 жыл бұрын
Xeen are awful compared to Milvus. Only benefit is workflow benefit due to the Xeen's cine format. But unless you're shooting on a potato the drop in image quality will not be work it. No good having a good workflow and a rubbish image!
@jessecook35932 жыл бұрын
@@JonasStuart Yeah I’m in line with you. I don’t think the Xeens are that bad, they’re better than the regular Rokinon DS cine lenses for sure, but if you’re getting into the $1,500-$2,000 per lens price point, I agree you’re optically getting a way better product with the Milvus. Not really close. But some people strongly consider workflow with the cine format of lenses; I don’t really so I’m currently saving up for Milvus cine-mods from Duclos as we speak.

@@jessecook3593 I have Meike Cines at present and the workflow is definitely very slick and easy with them. They're sharp too (except for the 25mm sadly) and give good flares (but lose a lot of contrast with strong light sources). I thought I'd want to sell them when I moved to Milvus (and still might) but I also might keep them if I still reach for them in a pinch - they're small, uniform, great build, super smooth focus aperture and so easy to use. I think they're better than the Xeens from what I've seen... The Milvus image is wonderful even if using them is slightly more work to change over...
