I got the L20R when it came out and the only complaint I have is that you can only run it off of an Ipad. I really wish it was able to connected to multiple devices so each band member could control their individual mixes.

My Soundcraft UI24 is the top of the line for this type of mixer. Unfortunately they are not reliable as mine is back in for repair and Soundcraft has no idea when I will get it back. Does this have a rta and eq you can adjust for feed back control? Does it have gates and eq on each channel? Thanks

Hello! I'm sorry to write here, but I've watched dozens of videos about connecting the Zoom L-20R to a computer, but nowhere is anyone talking about whether I need an ipad or not if I just want to use it as an interface? Because I've connected it to Cubase without an ipad yet, it sees the mixer, inputs, outputs, but I can't sound it, there is no signal on the master outputs. I wrote to the Zoom representative, he hasn't answered anything in days. I haven't found a forum to talk about, I see you're responding to your viewers, I thought I'd give it a try. So my question is, do I need an Ipad to activate the outputs of the Zoom L-20R in Daw? Do I need to turn something on there? Thanks in advance for the reply.

You shouldn't need an iPad just to use it as a typical audio interface. Have you downloaded and installed the audio drivers for the L-20R on the zoom website? Not sure what do you mean by you can't sound it, is there no playback audio from the DAW to the L-20R?

I've also just reviewed the Zoom manual again, you need to try these: 1) Ensure that the "MODE" switch on the Zoom is set to "AUDIO INTERFACE" 2) Ensure signal is coming back into the Zoom. It will come back on either channels "17_18" or CH19_20" 3) Enable return inputs on "17_18" or CH19_20" by accessing the channel strip page and pressing the USB button Now that I've read point 3, the manual shows the iPAD interface, you have to see if you can enable (3) on the device itself. It would be quite stupid if manufacturers lock certain functions behind an app and its only on iOS...

@@AeonixProductions Thank you very much for your reply and for the effort you looked for in the user manual. It really looks like you can’t use the stuff as an interface without an ipad either. That "usb" button can only be turned on there, there is no other external option. I also find this to be a very bad idea from Zoom because that way it won’t be a good and cheap interface. I wish you more good work! I will follow your channel!

Nope, there is no Windows PC app to control the mixer. You could however record the multitracks in a DAW and do the mixing after the fact.

does the drum acrylic made a huge difference with the vocal microphone drum bleed?

You do need absorption behind the drum shield to prevent the cymbal from bouncing off the back wall and just spilling all over the room again. In this case we do not have much absorption behind so the bleed is still there but it is less direct sounding and probably not as bright as compared to if there were no drum shield there.

Hi, I have some questions regarding this gear.. I've been thinking of getting this particular one, since it has the ability to record multi-tracks simultaneously with its simple design (plug, adjust gain, done), I think this is the only gear that my brain could handle for now.. LOL.. Does this work great with any DAW? What about the latency? How was the performance of this gear for recording drums (peak, pre-amp/phantom)? I'll be waiting for your reply and thank you very much for the great review..

Hey! thanks for the kind words, we haven't really tested it extensively with a DAW for its latency performance etc, I guess the main feature of this is really for live usage. It does the job for drum recording no issues as do most modern interfaces. There are a lot of similar stage box mixers like this and I'd think the key differentiations are the number of outputs, custom mixes and unique features it offers. The main drawback with this is that there is no Android app which is a major con to me.

So basically I will only be using this to capture each close mics on my drums to get transfered over to my DAW, just like any other interfaces.. @@TimPetersonMusic You can definitely use it as a typical audio interface but I doubt u can control the Zoom with a desktop software akin to the iPad app. We have a Behringer XR18 that can do what you mention, has a desktop app, along with iOS and android apps and fully featured channel strip on all 16 preamps (gate, compression, eq, RTA) and decent effects. I think that will suit your needs better as an interface to monitor your drums and get a decent mix for monitoring.

@@TimPetersonMusic Hey brother, I came to see this video for your same reasons, but have all your same questions and more answered at Sweetwater website, you can read info, watch videos, chat with them, call them or email and the answers will be there promptly. They can also compare the L-20R with the Behringer XR18 (they have both) or similar gear that adjust your needs and or budget. I write by experience, all my drum gear is from them, plus ..if there is a bit of unhappiness with your purchase, you can check their return policy. They are always there for you, they never hide or let you hanging.
