OMG! I was in heaven watching you walk through that gentlemans shop. How did you resist buying everything!? I love it when I know the history of the tools I own, most of them are old but quite capable. Cannot wait to see them in action. The VR was eye opening for me, what a great time to be alive!

I have seen where some sailing channels do long term refits and their viewership drops off, however I seriously doubt that yours will. You three are such a kind family and I think what you're doing to very interesting, I look forward to the next installment. Having the farm all to yourselves has got to be a real treat, snow chases the farmers away.

Wow that was everyone's dream to find quality tools in a garage and from someone who can tell you a story or two. So glad to see things really shaping up. That VR walk through was a great idea. Having a sense of scale that an onscreen view can't give is worth the effort.

Coupla things: the opening segment with Malin & Vera playing in the snow was both a beautiful, bucolic landscape & a heart-warming family scene; and Johan musta felt like a kid in a candy store when he discovered all of those industrial-quality carpentry machines in one place ... and all of that red cedar for a good price would be the icing on the cake - Bart

I once owned a 20 meter cat, strip plank epoxy glass that was struck at sea by a 300 meter container ship moving at +/- 20 knots. My boat was badly damaged but did not take on water. The hull absorbed the impact by flexing. Unbelieveably strong. The strips were 100mm wide and 15mm thick. It is much easier to build these boats with thicker strips that are still at least 100mm wide. And the gaps between the strips can be quite wide. The wider the gaps are the more the epoxy can shrink and expand as it flexes, and the wider the strips are the easier and fast the build. The extra epoxy/filler used to fill wider gaps costs very little, do the math. A major mistake made in the building of my boat was the 15mm thickness of the strips because you could not fair the boat by sanding the wood, if you sanded away 3mm in spots it would be too thin. So they added 4-5mm of fairing compound to the outside which is heavy and much harder to sand. Use thicker strips and you can fair the wood, which is quite easy to sand and level.

You hit the motherload with that guy. Quality machines indeed and a lovely bench. Might be a good idea to get one of those hydraulic pallet trucks so you can move this stuff around easier. As for the VR that was very cool and it will be interesting to see what your naval architect thinks of it. Beautiful scenery with the snow. Happy days. Andy UK

What a great find for you, solid machines, perhaps without some of the latest 'bells and whistles'. Apart from getting a fair price, the seller should be so happy that the machines will be used on a lovely project, building RAN III. The VR is interesting, I wonder how it takes into account the thickness of the interior, lining, panelling bulkheads.

Johann, I would not get 4-sided planer I would have a shop to do that for you. It's one off job. I wrote to you earlier when you first announced about building a boat. We have build boats before with the exact same principle. How you want those strips is one side planed (inside the boat) other side more "hairy/not finished" the outside. The joining sides with U and reverse U shape (guess scalloped is the right English word). Straight edged stripes won't work
