Using VLC to reduce video file size

I had VLC for so long and never realized that I could use it to reduce the size of a video file and still keep a decent quality. Thank you very much for making this video.

Thank you very much. One suggestion, it would have been great at the end of the process if you would have played some of the original and some of the completed compressed video so we could see the quality. Thanks again for doing this. I was looking into handbrake software. It came up in the Rittenhouse trial today and I had not heard of handbrake Software. I'm actually retired IT.

Apart from the Audio Codec settings indicated, which video settings did you use? That is, which one from the list of "Profile:" list of settings available? Thank you for your help.

@@orbemath I didn't touch anything only the Audio codec so after conversion your video should also have audio on it. Quality of the video is pretty much the same it just literally down size the file.

It got bigger because you chose a format that was up size from what you started with. ..you caused it to be bigger. ..to shrink a file you must choose a format that is smaller than your particular video

I would like to combine the vob files from a dvd to a single smaller file size as one file. Can you do this in VLC? Great video and I will use it a lot.

Hi Are you using a PC? I have a mac and there is no Media tab. I am on version 3/0/16 but the look for update feature does not work. Do you know if the mac version for 3/0/17 looks different from v3/0/16?

The apple version of VLC is feeble. ..you need PC to enjoy the special features in VLC

argh! AGAIN I find a tutorial that doesn't show EXACTLY what to do. Played parts three times. MULTIPLE WAYS to get a video INTO vlc. WHICH ONE brings up the same window you have here? Not a clue. And why blabber on about WHY someone wants to reduce a file???? WE ARE ALL HERE LOOKING FOR HOW RIGHT? We KNOW why. I'm moving along... will try some different software. VLC is great to play stuff on but this doesn't seem to be something I can figure out.

Sounds like you were trying VLC on apple. ..it's hasn't got compression feature ..you need PC version
