Your explanation was so interesting, Cathy! I have had a difficult time pairing up fabrics, and now I see why. When putting two types side by side, I can pretty easily see if they “go” together. But once you begin introducing more colors, it starts getting confusing. Your video is a very good overview for those of us who lack the experience with color. I found this very helpful…….thanks! 😉…….❤️Brenda

A few years ago, I was researching historical fabrics and dyes. One interesting fact I came across was the use of "crimson" for those bluish, cool reds, and "scarlet" for the orangey, warm reds. Having those terms defined has helped me suss out all the red options. Oh, and "muted" was often referred to as "saddened!"

ok, so I learned something new today because of this comment, and as you may know, learning is my FAVORITE!! 🥰 Love love love the interesting fact about "saddened" and I also love the reminder of "crimson" as a great color to name reds and I had TOTALLY forgotten about "scarlet" as another red-naming option. LOVE IT! Thank you! ❤️

What a beautiful and complete explanations ! I like your choices and I also like the association between colours. It's also very interesting to know that certain combinations have pretty names like "mustard", " "royal blue or green", " magenta" and so on. In romanian language we also have "greige" meaning something between grey and beije !!😄 It's so funny to learn the specific names of different combinations of basic colours. Maybe you will have a video with this names . I really enjoy your presentations always thinking at my husband's shirts!!😅 So, untill next time, best wishes from Romania 🌼🍀🌺🌻🌸

Nice job! Yes, those English semantics can get us confused...again! And it is so true how no one seems to see the same colors. As a child, my mother always told me that I couldn't wear red or yellow. Now I know that I can wear "warm" reds or yellows (tomato or mustard) but not cool tones (cherry or pale daffodil). Karen Brown also has a video on color that is helpful to quilters. She uses some different terms, but her examples are good, as well. Again, kudos to you for another great video 👏👏👏

I have a hard time describing colors that are not "basic", but my mind can really rebel when some colors are placed together. Not that I know enough to say why, just that jarring feeling when at least I do not like the combination. I think the way colors react to each other is fascinating, and I thank you for the lesson today that helps me realize why some colors together look differently than when they are by themselves.

The quilt behind you is really pretty! Did you design it yourself? I like your lesson on warm and cool colors. In my brain, I see blue grays, green grays, beige grays. I also see pink beige, green beige, gray beige, yellow beige. I feel like color matching, etc. is a strong point of mine, and is easy for me. I think you have strong color matching ability, too!

First, yes was tempted to log in at 1am to watch if I hadn't been sleeping soundly. Second, my brain hurts its too easy to buy a charm pack and working with shirt stash is more fun! Was pulling out pink red orange last night to find some good combos to see if I have enough to start the star quilt when the pattern arrives. And third, day job is getting in the way of my sewing play time.

Excellent explanation of colors and undertones! I look at the first few quilts I made vs recent quilts and can see a huge improvement in color selection. It takes practice. (And grays…..I’ve been looking for a gray to paint my kitchen cabinets. Many have blue undertones, which I don’t want…so looking for a gray with a more brown/tan undertone. 3 years later, I’m still searching for the right color!)

Great job! I bought khaki pants years ago and had nothing in my closet to wear them with. When I returned them, the clerk asked me why I was returning them. I said I didn’t have anything to wear them with and she looked at me like I had lost my mind and she made some comment about everything going with khaki. I had my “colors” done way back when and I only wear clear, blue-based colors. I don’t like how my colors look with khaki/tan/beige and to this day, I don’t own khaki pants!

I'm a kindred spirit, in that I use empty Talenti containers for everything, and I quilt with thrifted shirts & linens. So, please accept this constructive correction. If you have two children, one is older, not oldest;and the other is younger, not youngest. I'm picky about grammar. It just grates every time you describe your daughters incorrectly. And for what it's worth, I listen to you on 1.5 speed because the digressions take up too much time. I do love your channel and watch them over & over.
