🌻 ABOUT COSMOPOLITAN CORNBREAD 🌻
In 2016 my husband and I retired from active duty army family life and planted roots in Alabama. We started a homestead from scratch, and shared that journey here on KZbin. In 2022 we answered the call to the mountains of Arkansas, where we are starting that journey once again.
I post videos to encourage families to embrace growing food, cooking real food and living a simpler, slower, faith-filled life. I am a whole bible believer, and share my passions for the home and the Father.
Here on Cosmopolitan Cornbread some of what you will see include:
🌻 Cooking from Scratch 🌻Homesteading
🌻 Raising Chickens 🌻 Raising Goats
🌻 Gardening 🌻 Organic Gardening 🌻 Food Preservation
🌻 Bible Devotionals 🌻 Faith 🌻Whole Bible 🌻
🌻 Women Homesteaders 🌻DIY 🌻 Natural Living 🌻 Natural Health
🌻 Home Ec Lessons 🌻 How to Cook, Bake and Can
Getting back to the basics as the Father intended.

For mulching leaves, you can also put leaves in a bucket or tote and chop them with a weedeater. If you don't have a mower with a bag.

I use leaves an pine needles all the time. My garden plants an vegetables are doing great. Last February we got a freeze an had to chop the tops off my banana trees. I took all the leaves an starks layered them under our fig tree. The figs are now as big as our hand. They are like eating honey on fruit. Outstanding. Will be doing that every year now.

Impossible Pie is my very first recipe I ever made... It makes its own crust!! 😅😋 6th grade Home Economics class in 1976 😁 It's still one of my all-time favorites and I still make it to this day... Introducing it to my children & grandchildren through the years of course. 💞 We were also gardening today. Got it all in the ground and it feels so good to finally have it all planted 🌱 Have a wonderful blessed day in our LORD JESUS CHRIST sis 🙏🏼🕊️ All my love ☺️

I put my eggplant by my established herb garden. It was the only bed unaffected by the herbicide because I don't put anything on my herb garden to begin with, thank goodness! So I am taking note to see if my eggplant has less pests this year.

Constance, I use in several of my garden beds shredded pine shavings directly from Xylos. They shred pine trees, and the shavings have not caused any problems (and don't have anything on them, no chemicals). The temperature in this part of Oklahoma is 96 degrees. A bit warm for this time of year. I have shade cloth, it's going up in the next day or so. I'm happy to see you have your beds going again. The plants you purchased should do well in these beds. Oh good on you girl for using the large rock from the creek to create garden beds, along with the leaves, and pine needles.

I'm glad to hear your talk about growing tomatoes in the southern heat. My sister just moved from SD to Florida to retire. Her husband is having trouble growing tomatoes in zone 9. So planting earlier in the season and using shade cloth might help is what I hear you saying? That rock bed is very cute. I wish I had some rocks like that.
@CosmopolitanCornbread
@CosmopolitanCornbread Ай бұрын
Yes an earlier garden season for certain, and shade cloth is extremely helpful. In Alabama (and here) I am in garden zone 7b. But that really only refers to plant survivability in the winter for perennials. The summers are very hot. But we do have a very long growing season. I will often start a second round of tomatoes to plant for a late summer garden. You just have to make sure the average time for you to get produce would be before the first frost.

Your asparagus looks great, as does the rest of the garden. I bought strawberries from MI Gardener this year. Only two came up. I was so mad! Several years ago, I bought them from him and they all came up but one. When we moved to ARkansas, I pulled up all my strawberries, I started with 25 two years prior and pulled out over 300 plants. I gave people so many and still had enough to get my own garden started here. Those finally reached the end of their lifespan last year and I had to start new this year. Well...I thought I would be. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. Wish they had money back guarantees.

I don't know if this will help with finding and/or identifying your Israeli melon seeds. You showed us them and talked a while about them in your video when you were planting your starters. You also put all your seed packets together in a couple of piles and rubber banded them together and I believe you stated you would be waiting to plant your Israeli seeds until a little later and added it to the pile. I wish you luck.
