that's dope, AUM is pretty powerful. been using it since I mainly was producing on my iPad for years.. back to hardware you got thinking of pulling out the iPad and giving this a try

I appreciate the video but hermod is way expensive! I’m trying the input in Beringer Brains and using my Beringer 173 patch bay, if that works, I don’t have to buy anything! Lol I just wanted to see how other people were doing it. I figured I could use any of my midi semi modular like neutron or Roland M 1 or by cv thru a relatively inexpensive sound card. I’m messing around with that today. I have almost every aum 3 app available so I can always come back to this method! I’ll let you know if it worked! Have a great day and thank you for the video!

So, you have your iPad connected to usb hub and usb hub connected to hermod? No midi interface for the iPad?

yep thats correct!

Hi there, I see you have the same case as me and you also love the iPad apps. I was wondering why you don’t utilize the Midi 1U rack +CVx?
@Buildmusic2 жыл бұрын
Good question, at the time, I had the Hermod, which could do both midi-> cv and act as a a sequencer. You could definitely do it with the 1u midi though

It does not unfortunately. You’d need a USB hub with power delivery

Just curious, but could you not just use the ES-9 to send MIDI/CV directly?...
@Buildmusic4 жыл бұрын
Hey good question! the ES-9 cannot do midi->cv directly; its 8 outputs are audio outputs of the interface. You can however use the audio outputs for CV, assuming that you have an app/software to do this. When I made the video, no such app existed. however today there is an AUv3 plugin called CoVariant that will convert midi notes to CV via an audio interface, and does the appropriate tuning to get proper pitch tracking. Worth checking out if you decide to go that route!

@@Buildmusic Could it be possible to also use the ableton cv tools to help with this?
@Buildmusic4 жыл бұрын
@@yamzarias9729 Yes you can 100% use the ES-9 with Ableton CV Tools. But you'd have to remove the iPad from the equation at that point

MiRack opens up all of that on iPad, it works great for converting midi to cv, using nysthi tuna Thor for calibrating oscillators.

How do you like the workflow of euro and ipad?
@Buildmusic3 жыл бұрын
I enjoy it, though its not my everyday thing. I really like the audio side with AUM. being able to easily route, add effects and record is great. the midi side interests me less just because im not a fan of the current crop of sequencing apps out tthere

Thank you for this video. Does AUM or es9 need a special firmware/additional setup to be baked to communicate with each other or is it just plug and play?

How could I use a Korg nanokey through the iPad to play notes live on the modular synthesizer?
@Buildmusic3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! couple options. the simplest way is to use a MIDI->CV module to convert the midi notes from the Korg to CV signals for the modular. You'd need one with USB midi, then you could use AUM to do the midi mapping from the korg keyboard to the midi module. The other alternative is to use a DC-coupled audio interface (like the ES-9) and an app called CoVariant, which is specifically designed to convert midi to CV and send the voltage out of the audio interface.
@ihatemonix2 жыл бұрын
In AUM do you have the ability to send a channel to the headphones output and use the headphones to cue while playing live? Thank you!
@Buildmusic2 жыл бұрын
Hey, you can definitely create a routing in AUM to do that, but it won’t be true cueing
@ihatemonix2 жыл бұрын
@@Buildmusic What do you mean?
@Buildmusic2 жыл бұрын
So you can have your main audio routes onto a mix bus, then send that mix bus to different outputs. And or you can send an input to multiple different busses
@ihatemonix2 жыл бұрын
@@Buildmusic Ok. Probably not what i am looking for. I think true cueing can be achieved using Midi Designer Pro. I will probably go that route. Thanks so much for the video and all of your answers!!

If all I want to do is send clock from my iPad to my modular, and send audio from my modular to my iPad, would this basically be the same process? All I would need is the lightning to usb connector to achieve this? How do you send clock from AUM to the modular?
@Buildmusic3 жыл бұрын
Hey, couple ways. One would be to use a midi to cv module like the expert sleepers FH-2 or others that can take the midi clock from your iPad and turn it into a clock signal in your modular. The other option would be to use a DC-coupled audio interface like the expert sleepers ES-9 and an app like CoVariant that can create an “audio” clock signal output to your modular
