@TrueGamerOpinion OS TCORR Yep shit still happens. I went to Fort Leonard Wood MO in 2018 for OSUT as a 12B. Sure as shit, it was black phase (Later on in AIT Advanced Individual Training) I was doing my laundry as usual and I began to notice something. About 5-7 of my African American Battle buddies (I knew one well) flooded in and told me to gtfo. Me being a dumbass and in a towel said something like "I'ght let me finish this load". To which the one I knew well told me, "Hey *insert my last name here*, get out now. At this point they closed the door behind them to which I said loudly, "Open the fucking door!" Next thing I remember *I was screaming and cussing at this point* was being on the ground with 2 dudes on top of me about to kick my shit in until the door fucking swung open and I hear some of my close battle buddies say, "Get off of *my last name* you fucking *Yes*. And then we had about 14 dudes in the laundry room and I was being drug out but my feet and luckily without a bruise and with my towel. I don't know where the fuck the DS's were. But afterwords the guy I knew told me "We wanted to talk about our sex lives and your fucking dumbass was in there". So yea, shit still happens now and racism is still fucking present with some people. Idk what happened to them afterwords but I never told the DS's about it. Idk if anyone else did because we all wanted to finish and gtfo.

Hazing works if it is done CORRECTLY and not taken out of context or hand. Take the good with the bad, because this certainly isn’t a black and white issue, nor does safe, responsible, controlled hazing require Mother’s of America’s input. The question “do you want paperwork or do you want to get strong?” has saved many careers by teaching them to do the right thing next time. Bullshit hazing to the point of hurting someone is wrong, but controlled hazing is a useful tool in an NCO’s pocket, as a belligerent E-3 that isn’t afraid of paperwork and has been fucking up can be corrected in a way where the entire COC doesn’t have to know. That correction doesn’t require everyone of every ranks input, it is between you and that NCO or Marine administering the corrective punishment. Once it’s done, it’s done- no one wants to brag about getting hazed for their stupid mistakes, and no one else in the chain has to know that you were fucked up and held accountable. It gives you a chance to start again with a clean slate. Paperwork doesn’t give you that, it’s on your record forever. Some of these new Marines coming in have NO respect for authority from the first day they checked into the fleet-the Drill Instructors weren’t allowed to fix it. They didn’t really learn they have to follow orders, and they didn’t really realize they shouldn’t talk back to others. Think back to boot camp, weren’t you afraid (at least at first) to get I.T.’d? I bet you listened and behaved because of that. Pain really does retain, if you don’t want extra sore arms right before your personal evening gym time, morning PT, or, for the whole weekend, you better do what you’re told the right way the first time. I say have 3rd Party (unbiased) monitored area(s) where hazing can be done, for a certain amount of time, with a certain type of exercises/ equipment, and only in certain conditions. Next, have every hazing correction recorded in a unit logbook. This eliminates the possibility of hazing getting out of control, but holds it over the heads of problem Marines. Give every Marine that fucks up a chance to either “push or do paperwork”, thereby cementing that Marine as a “wimp” for not owning up to his mistakes by taking the easy way of paperwork that follows you through your career. It reminds the Marine to admit and atone for their mistake, reminds others to steer clear unless they want to get sweaty and sore, reinforces pride in warrior culture and toughness, identifies Marines that care more about getting a record (meaning they probably don’t give a fuck anyway) than fessing up and getting strong, and keeps permanent paperwork out of a Marine’s record. Easy choice! If you don’t want to waste your time putting uncomfortable and inconvenient pain in your body, then you have to be better! Get strong or get smart! As far as things like “running and doing calisthenics while reciting weapons knowledge”, your seniors do it for the reason of combat-don’t you think you’ll be tired and sore in a combat situation, yet you still have to know and apply your weapons knowledge? As far as non-physical hazing punishments that don’t include anything of a sexist, racist, or other bigoted nature, go for it. For example, wearing a huge cardboard cutout around your neck of the Four Weapons Safety Rules because you forgot and didn’t care to study them, and got dropped from the Range you were supposed to pass helps you to remember them later. A timed duration of the punishment correlating to the severity of the offense is pertinent. Documentation, reason, control, one time application, and responsibility is key for sensible hazing to work. It’s key to having easier ways to enforce discipline and long term, big picture effectiveness in the fleet.
@cm-pr2ys6 жыл бұрын
Sul A that’s not what i was getting at, i was talking about responsible hazing, in other words you could call it hard but good training where you see the point to it. But cool story man, glad you stuck up for yourself against what sounds like dumbass kids on a power trip

The problem is when the people doing the hazing are immature, impulsive kids with rank that don’t know when to stop hazing, when to start teaching, and when to use hazing. Also, a lot of underage and of age Marines developed alcohol problems from being forced to drink by their seniors. Just saying
@jlbush82494 жыл бұрын
One “hazing” incident won’t make you an alcoholic. You could drink everyday and not become an alcoholic. Alcoholism is 50% genetic. I guess the argument could be made if you were susceptible through genetics, then constant peer pressure drinking could make you become an alcoholic. However, most Marines with alcohol problems developed it through other factors such as a susceptibility to alcohol combined with the mental stress of daily Marine Corps life and combat stress. Not from “impulsive kids with rank”.

I understand that this hazing is a cultural ritual. But I don't understand how a Lance Corporal can make a PFC perform actions that are likely unlawful orders, if the higher-ranked person makes it an order. Otherwise it's just pressure. Saying that y'all have to chug beers is tame, but I can't see how an NCO can have the gall to demand that two PFCs fight or fuck each other. That's just way too out of line. This shit makes me think that 75% of Marines are psychopaths. Which is a good and necessary thing for infantry roles, but socially for the sake of military discipline, it's unwanted.

and you get moved to a nondeployable unit because no one trusts you. You cant bond with the boys we don't want you anyways

funny when i was in the corps we grunts ( 03/11) didnt have any hazing some just beefed because we were from different cities and some just beefed because of small ego trips the closest that i came to any kind of ritual was when my wing's (blood wings = 2'nd mos=03/21)punched into my chest and that was only once and the heavy drinking when we crossed the equator

my b-in law is a POG airwinger. Got out as a SGT. but he was a seargent for a year and a half out of 5. he gave me shit for being a 36 month Lance. we drive the Corps.... They finally promoted me because... and I quote, "we are tired of you being lazy." God Bless SSGT. Newton AKA Shrek... (36 months because I refused to do MCI's, and also because I went home to my wife on field day) Thats the definition of LAZY... HA HA HA HA

As long as the Hazing doesn't go to far (i.e. Russian roulette or hard drugs) it should be aloud. It builds respect and builds good memories, most of the time. It also let's you show how much heart you got.

Boot camp is just a warmup for fleet. Marine command is a joke, they have no idea what’s happening. Some boots are hospitalized and sometimes medically discharged because nobody has control. Yo guys, the enemy isn’t inside the barracks, idiots Oh, they can’t figure out the retention problem.

okay, I'm fuckin old, get over it, (not really), but back in the day in the 70's, anyone would get their ass kicked as a part of hazing & it was all okay & forgiven. Man, such bull shit hard core ass kickings done to us, just in freshman in high school. Now they can't get away with anything. C'mon drinkin beers, you got lucky pal !!!

aaannnddd that was the military equivalent of a big brother night in fraternities. My freshman year i'm chilling at my dorm, brothers in the fraternity I was pledging at stormed in started to make me chug, threw me in the trunk of their SUV and made me chug three 40's. Talked shit, screamed in my face, etc till I finished (blindfolded the entire time). Got to where we were going, didn't puke, and was told I was the best pledge out of my fuck up pledge class, got initiated at the end of the semester. Point being, 18-22 is some of the best times.
