Loved the episode guys but cheap shot to pick Weah for stock down for what third time for the same reason?

Fair point, we lose track of the players we pick each week at time but you’re right.

Scally is still developing. Moenchengladbach are bringing him along slowly but they seem committed to try to develop him. He's slowly adding proficiencies to his repertoire. He's not fast enough to fly up and down the flank. He needs better ball control to work his way upfield more and he does seem to be improving it. If he can continue to improve he'll be able to get into positions to put in good crosses consistently. He's a good passer of the ball and good with long balls. If he can't improve his ball control on the move perhaps he should be moved to center back. It should be remembered that he's still just 21 and that he's playing in the Bundesliga. It's not like playing in the Belgian League or even the Championship. He doesn't have the luxury to push the envelope with rather weak teams. All Bundesliga teams are built to be stout and they are all dangerous to Gladbach. The US outmatches New Zealand or even Panama far more than Gladbach outmatches any team in the Bundesliga. But is a team like New Zealand or Panama really the type of team we see ourselves relying on the qualities of our right back for in the World Cup? Scally doesn't have a sexy skillset but fullback doesn't have to be a sexy position. The US can't expect to get out of the position what the top club teams do.

It has been impressive how much he’s played in the Bundesliga despite being so young, but I don’t really see him progressing at the rate I would hope. Not that it’s a bad thing, he’s still a very reliable RB2 behind Dest. But to your point, we don’t need him to make an impact against teams like NZ and Panama, so it’s the perfect time to give Fossey a chance.

@@AMERICANULTRASTALK One of the points I was trying to make but didn't say explicitly was that if Scally were in an easier league you'd see a more linear progression. But in the Bundesliga he needs to meet a threshold for anything added to his game. If Scally had been playing in the Eredivisie for the last 3 years he would be far better offensively now than he is, but he would be a far worse right back. Sure, have Fossey play versus New Zealand. Nothing wrong with that. And he's going to look much better than Scally doing it. When Scally is 26 he will likely look good doing it, too. But it doesn't mean much for the national team. A right back that helps us beat New Zealand does very little for the national team. If Scally went down I'd be nervous going into the World Cup with Fossey as the backup to Dest. I have nothing against Fossey. I haven't really seen him play. I'm going by the fact that he's 26, has an offensive skillset, by a glance doesn't seem to have changed his stats over the past 3 years, and yet is still playing for Standard Liege in the Belgian League. I am assuming there are defensive deficiencies. Maybe he's seen a sudden shot of development. However, 3 years ago he wasn't even making the bench in the Championship. 4 years ago when he was Scally's age he played right back in League One and had worse statistics than Scally does in the Bundesliga, especially in terms of ground duels and on the ball actions. It seems after that season Fossey has been playing as a wingback. The US doesn't play with wingbacks and if we did and Dest were out we'd use Weah or McKennie before we used Fossey or Scally. Like you said, if we played with a back three, Scally would more likely to be in the back three than a wingback. In any case, Fossey is certainly better than Shaq Moore, but I don't think he really challenges Scally in any meaningful way. As far as Scally's development, give it time. He's only 21. I think you're more likely to see a temporary plateau in development for a young player playing in defense in a tough league than for a young player playing in defense in an easier one. His passing and on the ball stats have improved year by year. He's not very dynamic but he's stout.

Latest changes for the upcoming camp are interesting… does it create new opportunities for others? I hope so. I get the criticism of the Weah criticism I see in the comments. I think he’s overrated, but he’s still playing consistent minutes for a higher-end Serie A club when healthy (emphasis added). But I’ll also point out he cost us the Copá with one of the stupidest plays ever from a USMNT player… there needs to be some accountability and I’m OK if he’s not in camp even if healthy.
@AMERICANULTRASTALK2 ай бұрын
Not sure he even will play consistent minutes this season with the new wingers Juve brought in. I get where people are coming from, but he deserves a permanent stock down for that red card against Panama, especially if we go beat Panama without him this window.

Why would Balo be out for "months" with a dislocated shoulder? Is that the word?
@juangasca86852 ай бұрын
That’s what I’m wondering as well, a dislocated shoulder doesn’t seem too serious
@chadhermansson2 ай бұрын
Yeah I’m not sure why they said that but I read that it will be 6-8 weeks so it is technically 2 months perhaps
@AMERICANULTRASTALK2 ай бұрын
Misspoke a little, they still need to do some tests to get an official return date but word is he’ll be out for several weeks. I wouldn’t expect it to be anything more than 2 months, hopefully it’s more like 1.

I love your content and don’t always comment but, I get that you are a Philly fan but the bias hurts. A while back you said McGlynn should have the highest potential out of our young midfielders. You think the older Aaronson is some sort of prodigy, I know you are young but this club bias hurts your (very good) judgement. Very harsh on Vazquez too.
@AMERICANULTRASTALK2 ай бұрын
Fair take, maybe I let my club bias cloud my judgement at times but I think it’s fair to say the Union have the best academy in the US and backing their players makes sense. I stand by that McGlynn take, unless we go to midfielders that are currently USYNT but I consider that a different group of players. I’ve never said Brenden is a prodigy or anything like that, just that he’s extremely overhated by the USMNT fanbase, which I stand by. I appreciate the compliment, it truly means a lot. I’ll try to keep my bias in check.
