It's so hard to believe that almost 3 out of every 4 of those guys are now dead according to government statistics. I'm 73 and am lucky enough to still remember my two years there 66-68. Miss my brothers in arms. Just an old Marine with many memories.

Thank you for this video. I was there in the audience, way in the back. I never figured I'd get to see the show again. Seeing the great Bob Hope show on Christmas Day was for me something I'll never forget. I was lucky enough to be able to hop on a chopper at the last second and fly out to the show from Fire Base Mace. Best Christmas gift I ever got. God bless you guys!

Always sweet to relive my Vietnam Days. I was in this crowd and saw it again in 1971. The one joke I remember from that show was Bob's...."Welcome to Long Binh, short for How Long Has it Been".

On Christmas Eve Myself and 3 other Instructors with our Dogs were sent over to Long Binh to clear the Ampitherather for Midnight Mass and then were told that we had to be back to clear it out again for the Bob Hope Show. We slept on the stage that night and cleared the area and were sitting on the stage when Bob Hope came over to us. He could not believe that we did that for him and his troupe. He put 2 of us with our dogs right up front and had them bring us water for our dogs and food for us. He then told his Cameraman to make sure that they got our pictures. When he came out He told the crowd about us sleeping there all night. You can see us at 2:42 of the show. I am the one with the White German Shepard Queenie. I told my family back home that they may see me on the Bob Hope Special. My Family told everyone to watch for me. Sure enough Mr Hope kept his promise. Mr Hope and all the people involved in all of his special Thank You SGT. James Sharp Dog Training Detachment Mine Dog Instructor 1970 Bien Hoa Vietnam

I saw this show on Christmas Day 1970. Members of my 2/7 Cav recon platoon and others from the battalion flew in by Chinook from firebase Andre in War Zone D north of Bien Hoa. We had no idea we'd be going until minutes before the choppers arrived. A TV camera tower on the left side partially blocked our view of the stage. I've often wondered if there's more film of the Long Binh show sitting in some Bob Hope film archive. Would be nice to see it.

i was at Danang AB xmas 1970. I was a crew chief with the 366th TFW. I remember Bob Hope did a Xmas show on the Marine side of the base by monkey mountain. The runway separated the Air Force base from the Marine base. I climbed on top of my revetment with my binoculars and looked across the runway to the Marine compound. about a mile away. I was able to see the lit up stage where Bob was, unfortunately they looked like ants. after reading some comments it seems this was 1971 not 1970.

Linda, I just ran across your question and I can assure you not all the G.I.'s were against the war. I was an Air Force G.I. stationed in Ubon, Thailand. I saw Mr. Hope in 1967 while stationed there. Stayed up all night just to get a good seat. By far the best live show I ever saw. We also had a lady by the name of Chris Noel who did a radio program on AFRTS for the troops each afternoon. We looked forward to hearing Chris. She is still working with the VETS today.

Jerry Brownlee KZbin just sent your post. Viet Nam was a large part of my era. I knew a lot of guys who went, not all of them returned alive. Very, very sad.

Linda Oliver I can understand this. I can assure you that the young fellows who were called on at that time, were impacted greatly. If you ask them, they will tell you a day doesn't go by that they don't think about it. JB
