Usopp Haters are gonna hate and say things like "Zoro has always been the vice captain, he is the first mate", but all of us, even then, know well Usopp could absolutely destroy Zoro in a sincere 1v1 and clearly holds his power to not damage his friends. Just to support this, think about Sanji taking orders from zoro, or the other way around. Neither one would listen to the other, not to mention zoros crew would literally just get lost. Let’s also remember when usopp inspires luffy to keep fighting at enies lobby. That is his best instance of inspiration.

It’s Nami, like dude, she takes control all the time. Ussop isn’t the only one that’s confronted Luffy either, she’s beaten the crap out of him and locked him in a cage. Sanji would do anything she said, Zoro is in huge debt to her, Jimbe ruined her life, and is deeply sorry about it, Brook is just happy to be there, Vivi isn’t even there right now, Zeus is her slave, Carrue also isn’t there, Swampy Meats is maybe in contention as a joke answer, Franky has never to my recollection even tried to take a leadership role in the crew, Chopper is just the emergency meat, and then there’s our God Ussop, good fella, savior and saint, would rank him as close to vice captain as Carribou though.

usopp is the only one who really seriously fought his captain without an element of coercion. nami was doing it bc of arlong, sanji was all the germa stuff ect. ussop is the only one who actively decided to split.. nami takes control but she doesnt really do the important captain stuff- the making allies not just alliances, being the heart of the crew, and whilst she makes plans, they certainly miss the .. lets call it signature luffy flair. usopp makes plans, but they strike a balance between namis pure practicality and luffy's.. everything.

@@benjaminmead9036 I wasn’t even considering Nami doing it with the Arlong stuff, was thinking more of after Wano. Beating up Luffy no coercion from outside forces required. Making Allies, Nami has The Punk Hazard kids, Tashigi, The weather dudes, Orange Town, Vivi and thus Alabasta, just off the top of my head that were all thoroughly her. Doing crazy things with no plan??? How about when she was flat out ready to die to a tobiropo member rather than say Luffy wouldn’t be the king of the pirates, that’s pure no plan Strawhat behavior like Luffy. Same every time she decides the crew will help someone so she can extort the royalty, she decides and that happens because she is one of the most free and follows her loves of money, maps, the crew. She is, after Luffy the heart of the crew absolutely. A pirate through and through. She has even worn the Strawhat the crew is named for.

I think pre timeskip Ussop would make a great vice captain, he was scardey but willing to help his friends whenever he could. Post timeskip Ussop is a useless bum that is more of a liability than an actual straw hat. Post timeskip Ussop really tried to abandon Robin and badmoutn Luffy. Lame man.

the only place zoro is named as vice captain is in the live action. to this day, the character profiles still just call him the swordsman of the straw hats. frankly, i think he makes sense as the first mate but not the vice captian.
