Great video, thanks Olivia. I live in Canada, on the U.S. border, so I have mailed from both countries and your tips are great no matter where you live. And yes it's super important to build a relationship with the post office personnel. I also ship using national post offices because frankly, I just want to support them and I don't find other companies any cheaper. Thanks so much for the great info!

I live in the sticks but love using USPS for my three e-commerce stores. Two Etsy and one on my own site. I make a point to be at the closest mailbox when the worker comes to empty the box. Also, if I have a big tub of mailers going out, I print a scan when printing labels and can drive to the closest post office, go around to the back where the loading dock is and leave the boxes up on the dock and walk away. Easy peasy! Added benefit...the PO is about a block away from my favorite taqueria in town! Thanks for your info....I am thinking about a roll label printer at some point in the future but so far the way I've been doing it for a thousand years still works! Really enjoy your vids. I work in a vacuum out here so it is nice to "talk with fellow shop owners!"

You can also ship using PayPal shipping, I’ve been using that to print off labels and they’re about $1+ cheaper. It’s nice to print it off and drop off at the post office. Also I purchased some tape from BJ’s and got about 6 rolls for $10.00. It’s so much cheaper than the $4 rolls at the post office.

I have never paid for any packing materials other than tape. You can find boxes and bubble wrap for free in the dumpsters behind stores.

Thank you for your information. I am about to publish my first Etsy store. I've got my supplies and such, but was wondering if USPS was the best way to figure out labels. Still working on it. Since I am selling prints of my art, they are lightweight but oversized, so I def need to do first class. One style will be flat 11X14 rigid mailer and my 16x20 size with be in a tube.

I know this comment is a little late but have you considered scheduling a pickup for your packages at home? I was a mail carrier up until a few months ago (im a clerk now) and I always had prepaid packages pickups to make along the route. I know a route where the carrier picks up sacks of small packages from a local pharmacy and all she has to do is scan a manifest sheet when accepting the pickup. As long as the mail carrier is using a traditional mail truck and not their own personal vehicle, it should be rather easy to schedule pickups at your business location.

Hello I am a small business owner . I do use USPS for Click N Ship . My question is I want to ship smaller items like 1 or 2 small coffee mugs or small frames. The box I want to use I ordered online from the USPS store FREE. It's a PRIORITY MAIL CUBE BOX. On the Box it says BOX 4 size is 7 X 7 X 6 . I always use the option weight my package and use my own box. Can I use this option to print my shipping labels for this cube box ? The box doesn't say Flat rate. It's confusing.

I'm just getting started in my business and I'm not sure the best way to go. I don't have an etsy shop I sell through my Facebook page. I do watercolor paintings. Most are 8 x 10 size. But I don't sell a lot in one month right now and especially not to mail. Maybe 5 a month. Would it be cheaper right now to go to the post office to get labels and wait until I am mailing more to print labels from home?

The label is paid shipping. Sort of like buying a stamp to mail a letter. Once you have the stamp/label it ships.

My advice is DONT. I’ll never use USPS again. I bought a $160 leatherman on eBay and USPS lost it and I didn’t get any compensation. They couldn’t care less

Do not do not do not do not use USPS for small business if your shipments are time sensitive! From person experience. Also their customer service I had a horrible time dealing with 🥲 Wanted to share in case I can save others headaches. Ups has been great with perishable items!
