It was 3 Jem Hadar ships, but they attacked the Defiant while she was cloaked and with main power cut. By the time they got power back and shields up, they had already taken massive damage. They took out one of the attacking ships, before being disabled

So it was in the next scene that they were surrounded by jem’hadar and not actually having engaged more than 3?

Keep in mind the Defiant when first launched had shields that didn't fully protect it, similar to the Venture that was easily destroyed. I also don't think it was armed with Quantum Torpedos on that mission, nor did it have its ablative armor. Later seasons, the Defiant was seen as much much more powerful. Plus plot armor of course.

I will say the Defiant is one of my favorite ships but I would say plot armor is the only reason the Defiant looked as good as it did in battle same with the Intrepid class. The Defiant’s best defense was its power attacks. The Odyssey only went down after it got rammed. The Venture would have obliterated those 3 Jem’hadar fighters 💥💥💥

@@AdmiralStilesSciFiGaming just to add onto what Platinum was saying about the Defiant. It was mentioned twice in Season 4 of DS9, first in Way of the Warrior that the Defiant had new armour and the episode 'Paradise Lost', it was mentioned that the Defiant was equipped with Ablative armour and Starfleet wasn't informed about it.

@@AdmiralStilesSciFiGaming Odyssey not Venture, that's what I meant. I just wish there was more consistency in writing. I feel like there were scenarios where both the Defiant Class and Intrepid were either too weak or too overpowered. Plot dictated the power level and capabilities of the ships. There should be a position in every Sci fi show where their only responsibility is to maintain consistency between episodes. That way Warp 9 doesn't mean 100 light years in a week one time, and 50 light years in 5 hours the next as an example.

@@PKPhoenix83 I totally agree, you’d think that there would be a QA if you will that checks for consistency especially in Star Trek with so much lore and depth.

@@AdmiralStilesSciFiGaming Same with Star Wars. Babylon 5 was really the only show that was very consistent. I think that was because JMS was so involved in the show, and everything was basically an arch vs an episode of the week. Perhaps that's a pitch (like a QA group) that could be made by a bunch of popular channels to Paramount and Disney. Get paid to make sure the Canon is respected. Oh wait, neither cares about that anymore lol.

These must have been those free non addict Jem’hadar. “If I’m not getting the kill you’re not either!!”

Big reason the Defiant lost in the show was their shields were ineffective against Jem Hadar weapons so the ship took a pummeling.

It was heavily outnumbered, the Defiant isn’t a godship, I would say the perfect ratio between defiant and attack ships is 3 to 1 for the Defiant to win easily. Any more and it’s going to get more and more difficult
