I think one of the crew mentioned this in an episode of TNG, once the Enterprise is relieved of it's bulk (i.e. the saucer section) it's very nimble. The stardrive has all the power of the warpcore without the mass of the saucer slowing it down or sucking up power.

Yeah they've take the line "we may need the saucer sections impulse engines" from TBOBW to mean its more maneuverable when really it's just empty space and a huge target

I cant see the health bar on the Excelsior-class very well, but it may have collided with the saucer module. It probably damaged the section's impulse drive and crashed into it finishing it off, but the impact smashed the sensor at the front of the keel. Without the sensor, the Excelsior-class would ignore you or the AI was taking a coffee break. ☕

Sounds like it may be the AI, it's not always perfect. Not sure why the ships don't always attack. Guess the Coffee is up to Janeway's standards on the Excelsior!

I'm glad you redid the battle. A lot of channels that do this or Star Trek: Legacy tend to go "Well, if I'd not done [Ridiculously Stupid Thing X], this would have been a good, entertaining battle. Being more maneuverable with the saucer section makes no sense and is a failure of the mod. Yes it has two more impulse engines but those are only good for pushing it forwards and maybe yawing left and right. Pitch and roll maneurvabilty comes from maneuvering jets situated around the ship. With half it's mass gone the stardrive should be much more agile and it should be faster since the middle impulse engine is bigger than the two side ones.

It makes sense that a War refit or even postwar design has improved acceleration and maneuverability. Not to the extent that it's more maneuverable than the star drive, by itself. The "Battle Section" mass is primarily in the nacelles. It was shown able to evade weapons fire from a Borg Cube. Before Definat, it was considered the closest thing Starfleet had to a warship. There's also no reason the Batlle Section would fire smaller torpedo loads without the saucer magazine.

There was a little over 22 year gap difference between from when the Enterprise-C was destroyed and when the Enterprise-D was built. Data: Presumed destroyed. The Enterprise-C was last seen near the Klingon outpost Narendra III exactly twenty-two years, three months and four days ago. Commander Shelby: There's one other recommendation I'd like to make, Commander. Separate the saucer section. Riker shakes his head no: We may need the power from the saucer's impulse engines.

It is also a huge amount of bulk. Saucer's impulse engines are not used when integrated. Argument could be made for extra power, but it is expressed in dialogue many times that the stardrive is a better battle ship with out the the saucer.

Yeah, the saucer section detached for the survival of civilians, and if it were advantageous to be in two locations at once. The saucer section isn't completely helpless, (but mostly is.). The big benefit of separation was that the star drive section could tactically move much faster without the mass of the saucer section. I don't know if that is reflected in the game,, but maybe try more flying in and out of battle and more fancy moves when without the saucer section?

One of the things to remember is that saucer sep for combat purposes was never meant for 2 on 2 but is more for 2 on 1. I recommend giving D vs C another go but without B and with saucer sep, you should see a different result from the first battle.

What about the dreadnought galaxy class? I suppose if you do saucer separation against b and c the star drive and saucer can defeat both of them. The saucer is equipped with a big phaser cannon, torpedo launchers and the normal phaser array.

The saucer section doesn't have photo launchers AFAIK. Saucer's impulse engines are not used when integrated. The nacelles on the ambassador are kind of wrong.

Saucer has a torpedo launcher, but it fires one torpedo at once and a minimal compliment. Its launcher is below the bridge, dorsal saucer side.

When I was modding, I made a Dominion War refit. The saucer torpedo launcher was raised just enough to fire while docked with the star drive. A second launcher was added to the saucer below the bridge. The dorsal star drive arrays were doubled in length. The aft phasers were moved further outward from the aft torpedo launcher to reduce chances of a single hit disabling all 5 aft weapons at once. The Captain's yacht was replaced with a dual pulse cannon array. A second dorsal phaser array added between the bridge module and existing array. Two phaser cannons added outside and below the deflector array. Second tractor beam added to saucer module. Main power system overhauled. Hull and shields reinforced. Two attack fighter squadrons attached. Torpedo launchers armored and stock increased to 350.

@@RetroBadgerGaming I never put it up. Could be in a stack of CDs, somewhere? I was more involved in Armada and other projects until modding for fun even became too time-consuming. Trick with modding is always balance. You set up an Uprated Galaxy for assaulting Orbital Weapons Platforms, and you have to create counters across the other factions to maintain a feel of how the fictitious rivals would react. Galaxy just happened to be one of the designs I had models of to help visualize what weapons should have what arcs, duration, power demands, to fluidly crash an opponent with wave after wave of firepower rather than having to yell "NOOO!" every time you hear the words "sweeping through phaser arcs." Knowing such intimate details provides for fun itself because you know the weaknesses and limitations you, yourself placed on a unit as if you were a Romulan Commander with well-placed operatives. The only real downside is keeping a system running aging software and the time to sit and immerse yourself in the modding and play time.

Well as for the Enterprise C, it came out close to the end of the Kingon and Federation wars. Everyone knows the Star Trek Next Gen Yesterday's Enterprise. Just saying that it would make sense how powerful the Enterprise C really was because of the timeframe of when it was in service until it was destroyed at the Klingon outpost.

@Not Dave I imagine the phaser array could be easily configured for that task. It does seem strange how they just rely on the Shields for everything.

@@RetroBadgerGaming Yes they did it once in Voyager, during the first year of hell, the one with Kes jumping back through time. Tuvok reconfigured the phasers to shoot the Krenim's torpedo just as it emerged from the launcher.

I've never played that game, but I have to say I think your torpedo targeting array is broken. You wasted a lot of torpedoes.

How do you get such smooth framerates? I'm trying the mod and I'm not getting great fps and I unfortunately can not figure it out. Any recommendations do get the game in a solid state?

@Ares 1744 It doesn't require a powerful PC. It is a struggle to get it working great on Windows 10. The best way of playing it is on Windows XP. I've found Nvidia graphics card have issues with it. Reinstalling the graphics drivers can help.

The Enterprise D Galaxy class strength index is 1355 as opposed to the Ambassador classes 730. Picards D had 12 type X Phaser arrays 3 mk 80 Photon torpedo launchers with a payload of 275 Photons antimatter spread emitters + antimatter mine layer no content really.

Wasn't the standard galaxy class 1000? The war refit was 1355 I think, but the D should still be easily able to take on the C and win comfortably.
