History lesson incoming: after all the Baltimore class had been decommissioned or converted to missile cruisers, it left a gap in the Navy's ability to conduct shore bombardment operations. Hence an idea to mount lightweight 8" guns onto destroyers. USS Hull served as the testbed getting her foremost 5" turret replaced by the new 8" turret. Despite initial success the program was terminated due to cost overruns and the Navy's decision to invest in precision guided munitions.

Only 1 Light Weight 8" gun was mounted in USS Hull during the test period. The gun was being developed with an eye towards mounting it in the Spruance class DD (a modern gas turbine powered destroyer) with the 8" being mounted in the forward most gun position. The aft gun would continue to be the MK45 5"/54 caliber gun. With the cancellation of the LTWT 8" program the forward gun continued to be a 5"/54cal just like the aft gun. The 8" proved to be problematic and never lived up to the hype.

2:23 Hull's shells have 4900 damage instead of 5000 damage like Des M's AP shells. So the bullets of the two are different. Can we say There is no advanced penetration angle in Hull??

Im reluctant to answer this because it's still in testing and subject to change throughout the testing process. I'll have to wait longer to confirm or deny this 😉

Should build twenty extra Burke'e, add a flagbridge, swap out the aft hanger with more VLS, and put rapid fire eight inchers on them. New cruisers
