As a young sailor, I was stationed at NSGA Skaggs Island, CA in 1966. Down the road from the base was a place called Cuttings Wharf off the Napa River. In the mud next to the beer joint we used to visit, were several wooden steamships. We were told they were used as troopships and transported U.S. troops to Europe during WW I. We explored them and were pretty amazed as none of them seem to be much larger than 150' overall. I bet they could tell some neat stories were they able to talk! One of them is still visible on Google Earth just a bit to the side of a building and parking lot.

I work on the Ohio River, linehaul Towboating. I’ve worked on lots beautiful boats. Oldest one from 1957 and in still good shape. Our main port is out of Hebron Ky. I go past Boone county. And even though I’ve heard of this boat. I didn’t know it up a creek off the River. The stories this boat and ones I’ve worked off of. If they could only Talk. This once beautiful boat. I think she’s far to gone. I don’t see them being able to save her. And it’s sad she ended up there. But she also could’ve ended up scrap many years ago. So Atleast in that little creek. She can still be remembered and tell a Story. Just hope people show respect. And not vandalize the ship any more.

You may be more knowledgeable than me on this, so I'm curious. Why couldn't someone like me with a welder, and a free week, come in and brace up the boat, and cut out the structurally compromised areas, and well in thicker plating, and then just skin up the entire exterior with thin metal. It'd only be about a week of time, and ~500 in metal, to get it floating again. After it floats, you can tug it down to where you can make an impression of the hull, and just hydro-blast out a new aluminum hull for it, of the same shape.

Evan Moore It’s probably in a navigable waterway since the Sachem is in it. It would be hard to claim it is not a navigable waterway with the Sachem sitting in the creek, according to, Google Earth, about 550 feet from the Ohio River. If you come into Taylor Creek from the Ohio River there is probably not much the land owner can do legally. Even if they own the land on both sides of the creek and the creek itself. They can keep you off of their land. My camp is on a small river and I own to the center of the river for over 2,000 feet. I do not own the land on the other side of the river. The river is considered a navigable waterway, even though I can walk across the river, when it is at its normal level, and not get my knees wet. I had an issue with people in kayaks, canoes, and tubs using my big beach. They claimed they had the right to use my beach because the river is a navigable waterway? So I went to the District Attorney about it. He told me I could not stop them from coming down the river in their boats, even though I owned it because it is a navigable waterway. He also told me this is covered under both, state and federal law. But, my beach was not part of the navigable waterway and I had every right to run them off and call the sheriff if they refused to leave. And that I could have them arrested for trespassing. So you could check with the DA for that county or possibly the Coast Guard, which might be the better source for that information, to verify rather Taylor Creek is, or is not, a navigable waterway. But who ever owns the ship could probably post the ship for no trespassing. But I believe you could use some type of boat if you entered the creek from the Ohio River, to take pictures all around the Sachem, unless it is not considered a navigable waterway. But I don’t see how it could not be a navigable waterway especially with the Sachem setting in the creek.

It's like someone complaining that the neighborhood kids are eating blackberries out of the mess of thorn bushes on their vacant lot, which they are too lazy to mow or and have no desire to pick anyway. The vandalism in the form of spray paint is the only thing actually slightly helping the boat not rust into oblivion. Only if it was shielded from radiation. Just being manufactured before the first bombs were detonated isn’t good enough. It’s why many pre WWII shipwrecks are cut up by salvage companies. That made it easier to identify rare particles or some such. If I come across it again I’ll post a link here.

This is a nice video, but your map of the Great Loop is incorrect. The Erie canal runs west from Albany NY at the Hudson river to Buffalo on Lake Erie. Your route follows the Hudson North beyond its point of origin over land to the Saint Lawrence Seaway, and down through Lake Ontario and up Niagara Falls to Buffalo.

looking at that deterioration the only way to get her out at this stage would be in three or four strategic parts. the hull is in no condition to move and she is very deep in the sediment. Never say never but I do not get the feeling she will leave where she is.

I don't remember thinking the guy's name but he was able to get on the ship I don't know how he did it wasn't filmed but he got on the ship somehow and took a video of the interior and there isn't much to see it's just nothing left it's just a shell it's all it is and you have to be very very careful because it's extremely rusty everywhere you walk yeah I agree she's done she should be left just to rust and peace.

The issue with telling people about these historical vessels and buildings that are stuck in place is that mass vandalism follows. A little abandoned town called Concrete city in PA was like this where only locals knew and respected the site. Once the internet started and it was shared about the site was vandalized and trashed to a point buildings which were designed to last forever had holes in them, fires from camping drug addicts damaged the concrete and needles strewn about. People still go back there despite all the trash and tasteless displays
