Nice video! Amazing how well the cartridge looks considering how long it’s been stored. No tarnish whatsoever.

Yes, they are in amazingly good condition. They must have been stored in very good conditions.

Always enjoy your tear down review videos. Interesting info. Love taking my '39 Tokarev to the range. The cartridge generates as much interest as the pistol by other range members.

Most folks are surprised with the noise and flash that this small round generates.

good stuff. I just started reloading these. 10.3-10.5 grains of 2400 is working very well.

It is not steel bullet, but this is bullet with the steel core inside. Tokarev military ammo often were done with steel cores.
@314299

This stuff is actually lead core, a bit unusual for 7.62x25 which is usually steel core.

very interesting the 3 pinned crimps for no set back in full auto. never seen that before and the round looks new for a 70 yr. old cartridge.

It would be interesting to see the kind of penetration it can achieve compared to other 7.62x25 ammo.

Interesting, Believe it or not, I have admired what the Soviet Union did in WW-2 with that round, They Maximized the use of a very lethal round, (Eight Million dead Germans and Chinese can't be wrong). Urban combat dictated that an inexpensive, easy to produce, maintain, shoot with combat accuracy sub-machine gun be in the hands of their fighting forces. Thus the PPsh-41 filled that role and continue's that in many countries today. The round itself is of a high velocity, and compact enough to carry quantities into the field. More powerful than a common pistol round because of its lightweight projectile and over-all cost to produce the ammunition could be made plentiful and shipped and carried in large quantities, as you know there were women in the military forces of the Soviets, the size of the firearm and recoil made it logistically perfect for their armed service.

Fortunately for us in the Canadian market, there seems to be a lot of the Tok. 7.62x25 surplus still out there . Most, if not all the stuff I've shot over the past couple of years has been copper wash steel case. The production date being..late 1970's I believe. Can you tell me where you purchased this brass cased 1947 dated ammo? Enjoy your reviews!

Purchased at a local gun shop here on the east coast. I expect he ordered it from one of the distributors.

Very much enjoyed your video,but I have a question. I purchased a tok M57 a few days before Covid shutdown.The firearm came into Canada from the States and I purchased obviously legally through one of our sports shops. Through the Covid thing I was lucky enough to have already for years had my RPAL so was able to pic it up after a couple weeks as the paperwork and new card came through rather quickly even as the issuing RCMP department employees were working from home. The firearm came with I think about 2700 rounds of ammo stored in large sardine type cans and boxed seperatly the same as your ammo in the video. They are steel jacket as they are magnetic and I don t beleive they can be shot indoors at any of the ranges here,must be shot on outdoor range. I have purchased a couple boxes of rounds to shoot indoors when the ranges open back up.My question is in regards to the ammo that came with the handgun. The rounds I got that are steel jacket and at that I don't know if they are lead or steel cored have copper casings. Is they any info on these shells that you may have to pass on? Thanks in advance

7.62x25mm ammo can be either lead core or steel core. I'd need more specific info to stand any chance of identifying your ammo, for instance photos of the ammo box/cans, individual packages of ammo and case head stamps. The most common surplus 7.62x25mm in Canada is Czech steel case stuff (gray cases) and it is steel core and quite high velocity.

Copper washer steel jacket, they hold together better on hard targets- like back stops- and are more likely to ricochet due to the energy and mass retention. This is why no one should use these indoor.
