My father, Shree Gautam Roy adds in his own words: "It was 1959-'60. I was attending a whole night musical proramme, possibly, Dover Lane or Sadarang Music Conference in Kolkata. Ustadjee had not yet fully recovered from some serious cardiac ailment, but was on the dais with his son Ustad Munawar Ali Khan Saheb. It was midnight and the accompanyists were Ustad Sagiriddin on Sarengi and Ustad Keramatullah Khan on tabla. The raga chosen was Malkaus and the bol started with "HARI OM" The moment Ustadjee started singing Hari Om in his voice. the sound resonated with my mind in such a way that I lost all senses for a second or two and the very thoght of this feeling still is very very strong in me! It's said that God can be reached through music and i can say this is definitely possible."

My maternal grandfather a classical music enthusiast remembered the first performance of bade ghulam ali khan sahab at banaras,a kaba of classical music in northern india,he use to say a young khan sahab appeared in front of connoisseurs of listeners fist time, there was lot of discussion about a young singer.the programme went on nicely, lot of accolades for khan sab,and a great honour for him self.and I remeber the shine, happiness, and pride in his eyes of that experience.undoubtedly he was a ustaad, master.however to get recognition in those days was a herculean task, because there were many great masters you had to face.a final nod of them was a big stamp.he will remain immortal through his timeless renditions.RIP
