Ustadji was one of the rare breed of Tabla players who had the aesthetic sense of how to use the Dagga. Most players these days use the Dagga symbolically. Tabla or danya provides only the speed. It thrills people, but It is the aesthetic modulation of dagga which provides the majesty and ornamentation, and brings out the performance as an art.

I am amazed by the clarity of the commentators in the beginning, such a distinction from the cacophony of current day TV. It is the presentation that the art deserves. Delhi school of Tabla has a unique resonance and finesse to it, perhaps because I developed around the acoustics of courts where finer tones could heard and appreciated.
