Shujaatji - tied, in my opinion, with Shahidji for first place among contemporary sitarists (those available on CDs and KZbin, that is), plays with incredible sweetness and eloquence in this concert clip (such good sound!). He is truly a *great* musician/composer! This performance, however, leaves me yearning for a somewhat more accurate tuning of the taraf (drone) strings. Annoyingly, this eminent artist can, occasionally, be remiss in this matter. Otherwise: beautiful, brilliant, beatific, blessed...

The percussionist gets various leads as to how his rhythm accompanyment ought to be when the soloist is playing the alap, jod and jhala. The tabalji joins in to complete the musical rendition only during the vilambit and drut gats.

Okay, I give up. How did you guys see Shujaat and Zakir play together? This is Shujaat playing an alap -- Zakir is sitting on stage but he doesn't play at all in this video.
