They are measuring their oxygen consumption. Like testing how fit they are. The treadmill goes up in speed and incline till they can't go anymore. The data they collect can help them in training and evaluate players.

@kellbell6397 its called a VO2 Max test to see how fast the players start building up lactic acid and how fast their bodies start to fatigue. it also measure how much oxygen they take in while working in an anaerobic state. look up "Feb. 5 2011 WNT fitness testing" for the video on it.
