Our channel shares our Mushroom Hunting Adventures. We focus on edible mushrooms, and share what we know about what we find. Our goal is to help you get great at finding and identifying edible mushrooms.
Never eat a mushroom without 100% positive identification. Here is the Mushroom's of Utah Facebook Page you can use for help with mushroom identification ...

When asking for help with identification, remember to ...
1. Take a close up picture of the cap
2. Take a close up picture under the cap
3. Also of the stem and the base of the mushroom.
4. Mushrooms of Utah may ask you to take a spore print, so be prepared to do that if asked

One of my absolute favorite and fondest memories was one time when I was younger and camping in the high uintas, a European family came through that didn’t speak English, but they had bags of mushrooms that they had gathered. They gave me one, and luckily I trusted them completely, and I sautéed it up in some butter and ate it with my dinner that night. It was the best mushroom I’ve ever had and I’ve spent the rest of my life trying to figure out what the mushroom was. It wasn’t until I saw one of your videos that I FINALLY got my answer!! It was a huge and delicious boletus edulis!! THANK YOU!! I can’t thank you enough, because now not only do I know what the mushroom was, now I can safely try to find one! Thank you!!

It is late in the season and most of them are gone now unfortunately. Two weeks ago you would have still found tons of them. But you may still find a few. If they have froze in the 9,000+ ft in elevation range, come down to the 8,000 ft range and you might have better luck. They seem to disappear once you get to about 7,500 ft. You could find a Boletus Barrowsii in the lower elevations, which is the White King mushroom. Focus in heavily wooded flat areas and north facing slopes. I have had tremendous luck finding them along the river in heavily wooded areas. You might find some Honey mushrooms, Flamuella mushrooms, and oysters as well.

@@UtahMushroomHunter Dang it! I was wondering if it was too late in the season to have any luck. I didn’t even think about the fact that we had snow tips on the mountains, and very likely a good amount of snow in the high Uintas. Do you remember if any of your videos show the Boletus Barrowsii? I’ve searched everywhere to try to find your email address because I think you mentioned that as a way to communicate with you. I bought a couple books, so I’ll have to check if any of those other mushrooms you mentioned are in there. I don’t think the Boletus Edulis is in either book I bought. I felt so confident after watching a few of your videos with the fantastic load of Boletus Edulis you found, but not sure I’d feel confident eating anything else unless I was clearly able to identify what it was, and you did such a great job with the Boletus Edulis. Thank you so much for your responses and all of the information. It’s much appreciated.

You can email me or even text me pictures at any time and I would be happy to help determine if you found a good edible mushroom or not. In the video description I have instructions on how to get mushroom IDs from the Facebook Mushrooms of Utah page as well. You can email me at Blaine@BlaineWashburn.com or text at 801-787-5866 cell. Thank you!! Here is a link for the Boletus Barrowsii... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boletus_barrowsii or here... www.mushroomexpert.com/boletus_barrowsii.html The Boletus Barrowsii is a choice edible as well!! They tend to be at lower elevations and have a whiter cap.

Hello Mr. Efe, thank you for your comment. I looked in that exact area last year. I didn't find any morels that day, but no doubt they are in that area. Numbers are much lower now than in the past because of development. Let me know if you find anything. Because of how cold it has been, it think it may be a bit early still. I am thinking next week might be a better chance but still early. But in three weeks, they should really start kicking into gear. I am going to make a video about this cold and how it is affecting them, as we wait for them to start popping!!

I've always wanted to learn about edible and madicinal mushrooms around Utah. I have started reading and foraging quite a bit in the last couple of years, and have found some. It would be great if you were to give general information such as Ogden Canyon, Avon, Cottonwood canyon, within X elevation. No honey holes, just general information, and show what kind of mushrooms to look for and how to identify spots that might produce specific species.

Hello John, I have never found Lion's Mane here. Nor have I heard of others finding it here in Utah (other than home grown, or brought in from wood material imported). Thank you for your comment!! Also for your suggestion!! I did have a link to mushrooms of Utah on the cover photo on my channel, but I now have added them to my descriptions. I think that was a great suggestion!!

You are eating Gyromitre shrooms? But they are toxics right? Nice video, its giving me the hope to keep hunting morels in france. :)
@UtahMushroomHunter
@UtahMushroomHunter Жыл бұрын
Gyromitra Montanas. You have to be very careful with the Gyromitra family because there are some very toxic mushrooms (such as Gyrmitra Esculenta) in this family. Positive identification for Gyromitra Montana is important, and you have to cook them well. As always, if you do cook and eat a Gyromitra Montana, cook it well and eat just a little bit to make sure it doesnt' cause an adverse reaction.
