Utahraptor a.k.a. Mega Raptor

Well this is confusing. There are two mountain ranges in Utah named the "Cedar Mountains": one in Tooele County and one in Iron County. The Cedar Mountain Formation, where Utahraptor was discovered, is in neither one of them, but in eastern Utah in Emery County. Strange.

on the feather debate i've heard a reason for 'lacking' with larger ones like ceratosaurus was the heat their very size created. if so this would be a reason for utah raptor to lack feathers being its far larger than something like velociratpor or deinonychus. otherwise... yes, it would probably share this feature with its other relatives.

Actually Utahraptor has recently been replaced by a new even larger trooidontid from china now currently they have only found footprints for this Dino but from those footprints they have managed to estimate that it was even larger then utahraptor so if we are talking about dromieosuars the yes Utah is the largest but if we are talking about all raptors with sickle claws including trooidontids which we should then no utahraptor is no longer the largest of all raptors if you want to know more then search it up sorry for all the misspellings
@hcollins99415 ай бұрын
@user-fx9th7mi9c I’m sorry to say, but Utahraptor is more than likely not gonna be dethroned by this new giant Troodontid. Troodontids are now no longer seen as members of the Dromaeosaurid or even as a sibling branch. They are now seen as another branch of the Paraves group. In fact, Troodontids are older than the Dromaeosaurus! With the oldest so far being Hesperornithoides; which lived side-by-side with stegosaurus and allosaurus in the Morrison formation of North America! So far Utahraptor is the largest confirmed Dromaeosaur; but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be dethroned. There is some fragmentary fossils in the Bissekty Formation of a large possible, Dromaeosaur that was at first thought to have been an Carcharodontosaurid! It doesn’t have a name yet; but it does have the nickname, the Bissekty Giant. If this does prove to be a Dromaeosaur, then this would be one that is 26 feet long and weighing 1 ton. Making it 3 to 8 feet longer and 1000 to 1400 pounds heavier than Utahraptor!

@@hcollins9941 oh I didn’t know but thanks for correcting me and you are right Utah could be dethroned one day we will just have to wait and see

@user-fx9th7mi9c Although one day, the Utahraptor might be dethroned is the largest Dromaeosaur in the world; that doesn’t stop it from keeping the title of the largest Dromaeosaur in North America!

paleontologists have found quill nobs (which are bumps that indicate where feathers are attached and are present in modern birds) on most dromaesaurs, so its very likely that utahraptor had them too
