By the way uthermal, if you want to do hatch cancel + building on creep trick, you have to let the hatch build for a couple seconds. If you cancel too quickly, the creep is going to go away faster.

- btw. it could be the case that it makes a difference how long you let the hatch be building before cancelling - I at least began to delay a bit at some point because of this problem

One thing I've seen Pig do is proxy hatch, in order to put down a forward creep tumor with a queen. Using the same cancel hatchery method. Pushing creep all over the map. You could do the same thing maybe? Or Nydus Rush, pull drones and rush as many spine/spore crawlers as you can.
@kj1h5kj
@kj1h5kj Жыл бұрын
I think the difference for the hatch(cancel)->spine is not you having to move the mouse, but the drone moving to the center of the space. Because the spine is 2 blocks wide instead of 3 (like the hatchery and evo chamber), the drone isn't in the correct spot and has to move a bit to get to the center of the 2x2 grid. That RNG of the drone movement (and maybe which direction the drone was facing when it exits the hatchery build) is what makes the spine harder to build here.

Have you ever tried mass overseer contaminate? Would love to see that since it's something so rarely used. Maybe the challenge could be something like delay opponents upgrades as long as possible.

You are so fun to watch! Played a little Starcraft when I was younger with a friend 2v2 and the only strategy was for me to zergrush, otherwise my friend would win 1v2. Best time of my life. You are so entertaining!! I wonder if it would be possible to cheese with spinecrawlers to GM?

Yeah, you figured it out at the end. One difference Zerg has to the other races that not many people realize is that the worker has to be at the center of the building to start making it, as where P and T can start build from the edge.

Placing a spine is harder than an evo. Here's why - when you cancel a hatch, the drone will always spawn in the middle of a 3x3 creep patch. If you try to build an evo the drone is already perfectly aligned with the creep but if you place a spine the drone will have to move from the initial spawning position to build a spine. The creep will start to decay by one patch by random from any of the 8 outside patches and a fraction of a second later two more patches will decay. I did some testing on slow speed and it appears that while I was able to place an evo at all times, placing a spine could be blocked by the first decayed patch of creep before my drone had time to relocate to build the spine. Also, the last game was painful. 1. Seeing double evo upgrades, full wall, roach warren, three spines, metabolic boost on low drones- "could be mutas. Let's sack this overlord I can't afford to lose" 2. Having like 13 workers - "would be nice with some gas and evolution chamber" 3. Roach attack happens with no ling reinforcements and holds - "would be nice with another round of 20 zerglings" I think that opening had you triggered so hard you should've just gged after cancelling your third hatch! We've all had those games haha.
@Broformist

The part with the failed hatchery trick gave me warm feelings, since I can never even place a damn evo chamber that way. Never enough speed/accuracy in my fingers.

Take a look at Pigs creep spread cheese, much safer to play, transitions well and forces a Queen build. Start base, cancel, you have a few seconds to start creep with a queen. Works well against Terran forces scan for creep tumors.

If the order the creep recedes in is deterministic, there might be a direction to place the spine crawler that gives you more time to place it than the others (since the creep receding on the opposite side of the spine doesn't matter).

@princess_love9929

if you have your cursor over the top left of the hatch before canceling it is easier to place the spine. I think it is because that is technically where the drone was so it has the creep the longest

The trick to getting the hatch creep to seed in is to wait for the hatch formation animation to finish before canceling. That way the creep will always be there, and you will get a 3x3 space for your tumor.

In the last game, I think skip more lings after the first few and rush mutas. Either on 2 base or even on three. Oppo seemed dead set on roaches and only sensible transition was spire himself. Both are well countered with a flock of early mutas.

Why not just invest in drops? That way, you can pop zerglings onto the high ground to scout in situations like that without wasting an overlord without getting to scout anyway because they're so slow? Also makes for a counter people don't expect? People are so rigid about never getting burrow or overlord tech.
