Picking up a used knapheide utility bed for my Dodge 2002 2500 SRW today and can't wait to get it on the truck. Glad I found your video and watched the bit about the bumper bolts behind the license plate!

Good job. I appreciate your help. Gotta take the new service bed off the wrecked one ton to put it on my personal 3/4 ton because my buddy was driving too fast. It's always easier to see the installation first.

Awesome home install. One thing I would recommend for any future installs would be some type of isolation spring mount up front to insulate the body from all bending and rocking the frame rails will do. In our fleet we noticed that when the bodies were rigidly mounted at all four corners, they tended to crack. Especially important when taking the truck off the nice smooth paved roads.

Thank you! Yes since the install I’ve mounted some rubber bushings at the front mounting points. After looking at some of the trucks at work that have the same body I noticed they had some springs added to give it some flex. Thanks for watching!

Can you explain the spring method a little more? About to install mine and would love to learn more about this.

Well thought out plan, and nice work. I'm doing sort of the opposite,removing an old rusted utility body and going to replace it with a flatbed. Just deciding to get a pre made or custom bed right now. Thanks for the video.
@racerjoe4274 жыл бұрын
Thank you, my well thought out plan was still a little sketchy about half way through but it did work thankfully. Hopefully yours comes off without a hitch. I did look into flatbeds and Big Tex and some others make pretty nice beds for a reasonable price

Where did you buy the bed and the back bumper at? You said you would leave a link but I don't see it. Also the truck looks good!

Thanks for the compliment. I got both the bed and the bumper at a place called Kustom Truck Body in La Mirada CA. (714)521-1941

Should of bought an RKI utility bed, the only lifetime warranty in the business. Looking at this body you can see the quality difference, no drilling for mounting and the wiring harnesses snap together into the original harness with adapters. No need to undercoat either, RKI is all galvanized steel, and the cost is about 6K total with install.

On those rear extension plates for the bumper..do they do anything other than extend the frame for the bumper?

They also mount the rear of the bed to the frame.

Why didnt you just use jack stands to set the new bed on instead of the extravagant winches and wood frame?
@racerjoe4273 жыл бұрын
So how do you suppose I put the bed on the jack stands? Magic? So let’s say after I magically put the bed up on jack stands how do I lower it on to the the truck? Or should I jack the truck up to meet the bed? Yeah your idea sounds much easier. I’m really sorry you’re such an idiot.

great video, How much did it run you to do it all yourself? I am curious what happened to the stock hitch? that bumper won't hold a 20ft trailer with a car on it. Thanks
@racerjoe4276 жыл бұрын
It was $3500 out the door for the body bumper and all associated hardware. Then a few hundred for come alongs led lights and misc items. The stock hitch fits but was 4” too short of reaching the end of the bumper. I cut out the stock receiver tube and welded in a longer one with gussets to add strength. I tow my 32’ toy hauler no problem.

Joe Simon kustom truck body fucked up my truck they sprayed my utility body without covering my cab and windows. Then the body I bought was for an extended cab so I told them they had to lengthen it. They decided to weld right over my cab without covering it and theres little pit marks that are starting to rust should of just done everything myself

Well long story short the truck is done. This channel was never meant to be a “vlog style” like other channels. I swapped out the NV4500 to a G56 and lost all my footage somehow so that was frustrating also. There are some things I’d like to do and maybe I’ll record and post them here when I do.
