Just watched the whole series, really awesome you built this from recycled materials! Goes to show how important knowledge and creativity are!

Just bought some 5 meter telephone poles for my yard here in Mexico (25 dollars a throw, hear they are free in the US). I've been fascinated with log cabins ever since I learned that A. Lincoln lived in one. It was great watching you put it up. I see you got really handy slinging mortar. Thank you!

Your cabin looks exceptionally well. The door I would put a crawlspace in the middle income from the corner down to the middle board from the top and from bottom to keep it from warping.

It looks great, but I have always heard that utility poles and railroad ties are extremely toxic. I was making a raised garden with railroad ties until I was informed that they are very toxic. I wonder if a clear coat or some kind of sealer could be used.

If I may, I would place the wood stove in the corner by the door to to help with the temperature control. Great looking cabin.

That is good advice- I put it in the back corner because it seemed out of the way and I think it really would be better by the door. Unfortunately I already installed the chimney so It's too late. Thanks for the comment!

Great video...I like the way you chinked the logs as I've been wondering for some time if a morter mix would work and it look's like a success..have you considered brushing on a little concrete sealer over your morter joint's to seal and protect them.
@benstown72095 жыл бұрын
Thanks David- Time will tell if they hold up, but I have seen others use this method with success. I do plan on putting some sealer on it once it's fully cured- I think it could really extend the lifespan

How big is the cabin? And how many poles did it take to build?
@benstown72095 жыл бұрын
Nathaniel Armentrout The cabin is about 12 x 20 so the poles are like 14 x 22 to account for overhang. It took about 30 poles in total.

I thought telephone poles would be dipped in creosote and would be toxic to ur health living in that cabin
@benstown72095 жыл бұрын
James, I address all this in my other videos and in the comments. I do not live in this cabin, it was just a fun project to use up some reclaimed materials. Thanks for your concern! - I agree creosote is bad for your health.
@trudidolder61225 жыл бұрын
James Johnson you might mention that fact more often. I am a newcomer and that concern about treated poles, was what made me stop in the first place. Even if this building is not livable per see, it is well done. But you might build one that is save to build and live in.
