Californians need to invest in their own firefighting equipment since the Los Angeles fire department is unable to fight these fires. I saw that most of these homes could have been saved because it started with one ember. If there were enough firefighting resources, this catastrophe could have been averted. One house was saved by using a generator that operated sprinkler systems and a pump where the owner drenched their house in pool water.

People, knowing they lived in a desert with limited water, high winds, no humidity, coud have been proactive . If they had pools they could have a gas generator, pump and hoses ready to protect their homes and their neighbors. Two such people did this, maybe more. Everyone needs to be prepared in any clime to protect and sustain their homes and families and then be able to help their neighbors ! What does it take to realize you can't depend on mayors, governors, presidents, be practical and proactive, have a plan and execute it !

Every year we receive tragic news how strong winds devastated USA coastal areas, and people in these zones still build paper and wood houseas instead of solid concrete houses. In Croatia we have wildfires every summer, strong winds that blow up to 250km per hour in certain regions, very corrupted government that steels public money all the time and still never happened that someone's home was blown away or entire villages burned in fire. These things happen regularly only in USA.

My hometown Dubrovnik was totally destroyed in 1667 due to an earthquake because all houses were made od wood. After that government ordered that only stone houses can be made in the town. It's still standing after couple of earthquakes, there were 2 pretty strong in last 45 years. No serious damage since all buildings are made of high quality concrete and stone.
